Booheads Review – Sustainable Oral Care Products [UPDATED 2025] – Swapping to more eco-friendly products is one way to live a more sustainable life. In my booheads review I look at their sustainable oral care products.
We all know that our planet is in a dire situation because of the way we live nowadays. Climate change is a huge risk to plants, wildlife and ourselves.
One thing we, as individuals, can do is to swap to more eco-friendly products. Dental care is an area where most of what we use at home ends up in landfill, causing harm to the environment.
In this booheads review I will look at their sustainable oral care products to assess if it is worth swapping to them.
In-Depth Booheads Review
Because most of the dental care products we use end up in landfill, this is a great place to make changes for the better. But it can be daunting to swap products that help you keep your mouth healthy.
I was very hesitant to change away from the brands I know and trust, but I wanted to reduce the waste our household produces. So, I did a lot of research into sustainable dental care products.
One UK-based company I came across is booheads, which I liked the look of.
In my booheads review I will share what I found out about their eco-friendly oral hygiene products. To make it as useful as possible, I will look in detail at the most important factors, including value for money, results and sustainability.
Sustainability – Green Credentials

I will start my booheads review with a good look at the company’s green credentials.
After all, you are reading this because you want to know if their products will help you to reduce your waste and live a more sustainable life.
Booheads is a UK-based company, which is important for me. I strongly believe that we should buy from businesses that are based in our home countries.
That’s because it doesn’t make environmental sense to order from a company on the other side of the world, if we can get what we want much closer to home. The carbon emissions produced by shipping a far distance can be saved by buying local.
Like me, booheads have realised that many traditional dental products end up in landfill or the environment, where they can cause a lot of harm.
Their solutions include using plant-based plastics, which don’t harm the planet as they break down. And they have a circular recycling scheme for their manual toothbrushes.
You can send them back for free for booheads to recycle them into new toothbrushes. Unfortunately, there isn’t much information about their circular recycling system on their website, so it is difficult to say how good it is.
Any plastic they use is made from plant-based materials, so-called bioplastics. This means no fossil fuels are used to make them, instead renewable and therefore sustainable materials are used.
They also use bamboo as a plastic alternative for their electric toothbrush heads. They partner with FSC, which means they only use sustainably sourced bamboo, which is great.
They have also partnered with Ecologi, which means they donate a percentage of every purchase on their website to this charity to support projects to reduce the world’s carbon emissions.
Booheads will also plant a tree for every order to help with this goal. And they also support Less Plastic, who raises awareness of plastic pollution in our oceans.
All in all, it looks like booheads have earned their green credentials.
Range Of Products
The next section in my booheads review is about their range of products. Unfortunately, they only have a limited range of dental care products.
In fact, it only includes three products:
- Manual toothbrush
- Bamboo electric toothbrush heads
- Recyclable electric toothbrush heads
Their limited range means that you have to look elsewhere if you want to replace all the dental care products you use.
However, focusing only on a small number of products isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It gives them a chance to get the products they do produce just right.
To find out if they are getting it right, I will look at their two products in more detail.
Manual Toothbrush

The booheads manual toothbrushes are made fully from plant-based materials. They are biodegradable and recyclable.
However, because you won’t be able to recycle them at home (most councils don’t accept biodegradable plastics in their home recycling programmes), you will receive a free return label when you order.
Booheads will then recycle the returned toothbrushes to make new toothbrushes. According to a study by UCL and Trinity College Dublin, this is close to being the most eco-friendly toothbrush possible.
They said that a plastic manual toothbrush with a replaceable head, which is recycled and turned into a new brush head, is the most sustainable way to brush your teeth.
Booheads are almost there, which is great. They certainly ensure that there is no plastic waste from their toothbrushes.
You don’t have a choice of bristles as they only offer their toothbrush with medium bristles. But if you order more than one, they will come with different coloured bristles, which is great if all the family are using them.
I couldn’t find any reviews so decided to try the manual toothbrush for myself. I really like the idea of a circular recycling system, as it’s the most sustainable way.

I have to say I was disappointed that the toothbrush arrived in a plastic bag and a plastic mail bag. While the mail bag is marked as recyclable, the plastic bag the toothbrush is in isn’t.
Also, I checked with my local council, and they don’t accept the recyclable bag, which meant I had to throw it in the general waste bin.
There was also no information whatsoever about how I could send the toothbrush back to them.
The website also doesn’t explain it either, so I had to email them. Booheads got back to me within a few minutes, which is great customer service.
Turns out there was a mistake as there should have been a box with a return label. They said they would send me a box. Unfortunately, this box never arrived, which isn’t great service at all. After I have finished with it, I will use it to clean fiddly bits in the bathroom. Then I will have to send it back to them at my own cost, what a shame.
What I like about the toothbrush is that it stands up on its own, so you don’t need a glass to put it in. The handle has raised dots all over it for a secure grip.
While I found the bristles a bit too soft, the toothbrush did a good job at cleaning my teeth. The handle felt good in my hands.
All in all, I would say this toothbrush does the job but without causing harm to the planet. Just a shame about the less than brilliant customer service.
Bamboo Electric Toothbrush Heads
For their eco-friendly electric toothbrush heads they decided to use bamboo rather than recyclable plastic.
Bamboo is a popular material to replace plastic with, because it grows quickly and doesn’t need much maintenance. It also has antibacterial properties, so it’s often used for toothbrushes and brush heads.
But the brush head is not fully made of bamboo. The bristles are made from a mix of nylon and castor oil. This is not unusual, given that there is currently no viable non-plastic option.
There is no information about the nylon, but bristles made from caster oil are common with eco-friendly toothbrushes. It’s made from oil of the castor bean, which means it’s a renewable source.
There is also a plastic piece in the neck of the head, which connects the neck to the electric toothbrush.
This connector is made from cornstarch PLA, which is a bioplastic, and therefore made from a renewable source. It’s compostable, but only in industrial composting facilities, not in your home compost heap.
If you don’t have access to an industrial composting facility, there aren’t many in the UK, then you have to throw it in your general waste bin.
Most councils won’t accept it in their recycling or garden waste bins as it can contaminate the other waste.
What’s disappointing is that the brush heads are not part of the circular recycling system booheads have for their manual toothbrushes.
The bristles also need to go in the general waste bin. But the bamboo neck, minus the plastic connector, can be thrown on your compost heap or in your garden waste bin.
It might take quite a while for the bamboo to decompose in a home compost heap, but will turn into soil eventually.
You can choose from different brushes, including deep clean and polish clean. They also offer children’s brush heads, so the whole family can swap.
They have brush heads that work with the Philips Sonicare and Ordo Sonic toothbrushes as well as their new Oraboo collection, which works with Oral-b toothbrushes.
The oral-b compatible brush heads are made from plastic. However, their website states that the plastic is from plant-bases sources, and you can send them back for free to be recycled once you are done with them.
The majority of customers are happy with their booheads bamboo toothbrush heads, which is always a good thing. You can buy them on Amazon.

Value For Money

The next section in my booheads review is all about money. We all work hard for our money, so we don’t want to overpay, right?
We all want to get value for money, so let’s have a look if you do with booheads.
The manual toothbrushes are not particularly expensive, but you can get cheaper ones in the supermarket. However, the ones from the supermarket will go to landfill, the booheads ones can be sent back and made into new toothbrushes.
They are also made from renewable sources, whereas most of the ones in the supermarket are made from traditional plastic, made from fossil fuels.
The bamboo toothbrush heads are cheaper than the branded Philips ones. So by swapping to booheads brush heads you will save money.
Plus, the booheads toothbrush heads are more eco-friendly than the traditional plastic ones. Knowing that you are contributing less to plastic waste is worth a lot for me.
That’s why I would say that you get value for money if you swap to their sustainable products.
You can also buy bigger packs, which will reduce the price. Or you could sign up to their subscription service. Not only will you save money doing so, you also get your order automatically and regularly delivered to you, hassle-free.
So I would say that booheads products are good value for money.
Booheads Customer Reviews
Before we buy new products we want to know if they are any good. That’s why many of us check customer reviews and that’s exactly what I did for my booheads review.
First I have to say that there are no reviews on Trustpilot or the booheads website. Given that brands have to pay to be featured on Trustpilot, it’s not surprising that some small businesses avoid this expense.
But booheads also sell their bamboo brush heads on Amazon, where there are reviews available. The majority are positive, but some do say that the fit is not perfect.
There are also some reviews that mention that brushing with the bamboo head is not very comfortable.
Having brushed with bamboo toothbrushes before I know that it can feel a bit weird at first. The wood can rub a bit on the inside of your mouth. But you soon get used to it.
As I have said earlier, I couldn’t find any reviews for the manual toothbrush, so I decided to try them out for myself. And I’m happy that it does what it’s meant to do, clean my teeth.
The Oraboo, which fits Oral-B electric toothbrushes, have received 73% positive reviews on Amazon. Most people said they fit well and cleaned their teeth well.
However, some have said they got cuts from the brushheads, which seems to suggest that the quality isn’t the best. But as it’s the majority, I don’t think it should put you off to at least try them.
It’s nice to have a product that’s natural and sustainable for brushing your teeth when we’ve all got used to doing so with a plastic toothbrush it fits the body of my toothbrush and feels no different when brushing my teeth so very happy with purchase.
4-Star Review on Amazon
Great alternative to plastic heads, the feel a little strange for the first few uses (almost like an ice lolly stick) so they stick a little to the inside of your mouth. I’d say after 4/5 uses it eases off and is fine. Would definitely recommend as a greener alternative. My teeth feel just as clean if not cleaner than using the original toothbrush heads.
5-Star Review on Amazon
Conclusion
To conclude my booheads review I am happy to say that their products offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic manual toothbrushes and brush heads.
Booheads might have a very limited range of sustainable dental care products, but that means they can focus on getting these right.
Their circular recycling system for the manual toothbrush is great, as it keeps their toothbrushes out of landfill.
Although I was disappointed to have received my manual toothbrush in a plastic bag. While their bamboo brush heads still contain plastic, they are made from renewable sources, which is more eco-friendly.
The majority of their customers seem happy with the results they get, including myself. My teeth felt clean after using their manual toothbrush.
And you won’t have to overspend either, as their prices are reasonable and even cheaper in the case of the bamboo brush heads.
If you are looking to brush your teeth without producing a huge amount of plastic waste, then booheads could be the right brand for you.
