Makeup plays a big part in some people’s life. But with conventional makeup containing many harmful synthetic ingredients, it’s worth looking at eco-friendly alternatives.

After finding out that conventional makeup is bad for our environment, I started to look at alternatives and found mineral makeup, which is better for the planet.

I wanted to create a sustainable beauty routine, which means moving away from harmful products. In my honest All Earth Mineral Cosmetics review, I share with you my experience with this eco-friendly makeup alternative.

About All Earth Mineral Cosmetics

Before I decide to try a product, I have a close look at the company selling it. I want to make sure that I buy from a sustainable business, after all, my aim is to reduce the impact I have on our environment.

Founded in 2018, initially under a different name, All Earth Mineral Cosmetics was the brain child of a Cornish makeup artist, who believed that makeup doesn’t need to contain harmful synthetic chemicals.

She teamed up with a natural skin scare enthusiast to create cosmetics that only contained natural ingredients, such as minerals, that are better for the skin and the environment.

Zero-Waste Packaging

But that’s not all. With the environment being a vital part of their business strategy, their packaging is also sustainable. All Earth Mineral Cosmetics have created a beautiful pot for life for their mineral makeup products.

It’s made in Cornwall from reclaimed fishing nets that have been taken out from the sea. The pot has been designed to last a lifetime and has an innovative sifter concept.

The sifter keeps the powder neatly in the pot, while making it easy to pour out the makeup into the lid to apply it easily.

Once you have your pot for life, you only have to buy the makeup, which comes in compostable refill pouches, so there is not waste. Any other products come in glass and aluminium packaging, which is fully and indefinitely recyclable.

Sample Sizes To Find Your Shade

Finding the right shade can be tricky, especially if you’re buying online. So I was very pleased to find out that All Earth Mineral Cosmetics offer sample sizes, which are sent to you with free postage for only £2.

And you can get a sample size for all their mineral makeup products plus one or two of their other offerings, like the face serum.

I bought a sample of the mineral foundation in shade 01. The powder came in a small paper envelope and was just the right amount for one application.

Options To Make Your Own Shade

They also offer a a 2g shot of all their powder cosmetics, which are ideal to travel or to create your own shade. You can add a different shade to your usual one to lighten or darken your makeup.

This is great if you have a gorgeous tan after your holidays. Or you can create your own shade, by buying 2g shots or samples of different shades and mixing them to make your own unique colour.

I love this, because it allows you to get exactly what you want and need from your makeup. The only issue is that if you have dark skin, you might not find a shade that is dark enough.

Amazing Coverage

I have to admit, that I was sceptical about how well the powder foundation would cover up any skin irregularities.

Especially, because I didn’t want to use a concealer and other makeup products, as I slimmed down the number of cosmetics I used as part of creating a sustainable beauty routine.

To my surprise and utter delight, the mineral foundation provides amazing coverage, even with only a small amount. I was really impressed with how little I needed to use to get a more even skin tone.

And I only used the foundation, so if you use a concealer and finishing poweder, you’ll probably get an even better finish, if that’s what you’re after. For me the foundation is enough, though.

Redness Gone

Since I have passed 30, my skin has reddish patches and a more uneven appearance. Before trying mineral makeup, I felt I had to use a lot of liquid foundation to get an even skin. But this always felt like a thick layer of makeup, which was uncomfortable.

All Earth Mineral Cosmetics’ powder foundation provides me with great coverage without the heaviness. The powder is light and I don’t even notice I’m wearing it.

Even a small amount achieves a more even skin tone. And you have the ability to build up your makeup too, if you’re after the perfect night-out-look.

No Staining

One thing I really heated about my liquid foundation was the staining of clothes. The amounts of time I pulled my top or dress over my head, and getting makeup stains on it…

No matter how careful I think I was, there was a stain, which was then difficult to get out in some cases. But with the mineral foundation there is no risk of that.

Even my white blouse stayed stainless after pulling it over my head in a hurry. I’m really impressed, I have to say.

Ideal For My Sensitive Skin

My skin is quite sensitive and doesn’t tend to react well to most skincare or cosmetic products. After removing my previous makeup, liquid foundation, my skin was dry, red, and tight every time.

The longer the makeup was on the worse my skin reacted. My All Earth Mineral Cosmetics mineral foundation is different. Far from being red and dry, my skin feels soft and comfortable after removing it, even when I’ve worn it all day.

This is such a game changer, and it’s down to the ingredients.

No Additives, Only Minerals

Liquid makeup contains a wide range of different ingredients, including preservatives, bulking agents, thickening agents, synthetic fragrances, and much more. Often, it’s these additional ingredients that can cause skin irritations.

But it’s not just the lack of these potential irritants that make my mineral makeup better for my sensitive skin. Certain minerals routinely used, such as Zinc Oxide, can actually help your skin.

Rather than causing irritation, it can help calm your skin, and prevent inflammation. (Gupta et al., 2014)

For me changing to a pure mineral makeup was mind-blowing. I had no idea that wearing makeup could be comfortable, especially after removing it. If you too have sensitive skin, I highly recommend trying mineral makeup.

No Dry Patches

Not only did my skin feel dry and uncomfortable after removing my liquid makeup, while I was waring it dry patches would appeare, where the makeup would congregate leading to a darker tint.

Especially in the groves around my mouth, but also in radom places on my cheeks or forehead. This is a thing of the past since I have switched to my mineral makeup.

The makeup remains invisible other than providing an even coverage of my skin. It makes me feel so much more comfortable in my skin.

Long Lasting Coverage

The next thing I want to cover in my All Earth Mineral Cosmetics review is the makeup’s staying power. Will it last all day?

The answer is an emphatic yes. After having worn it all day, it still looked like I only just put it on. Even hot and humid weather is no match for this mineral foundation.

On our recent holiday to Asia, we experienced tropical conditions, with very high temperatures and humidity. The makeup stayed on, even when I was sweating.

I never tested any makeup under such difficult conditions. And I’m so pleased that it stood up to the challenge.

A Little Goes A Long Way

Talking of how long it lasts: because you don’t need to use much, a 4g pot will last a long time. Of course, this will depend on how often and how much you use the makeup.

But compared to a liquid equvialent, mineral powder makeup lasts quite a bit longer. A little goes a long way, but it’s also easier to use less.

I pour out a little bit on the cover of the makeup pot, dab my makeup brush in, and start distributing it on my face. I continue to do that until I have the desired coverage. This makes it very easy to only use what you need.

Great Value For Money

So how much do you have to pay for all these great benefits? Well, not as much as you might think. In my opinion, All Earth Mineral Cosmetics products are reasonably priced.

The refills are cheaper than most other high-quality liquid makeup, but you only get pure minerals, no preservatives and other nasty chemicals.

Because you don’t need much of the powder makeup for good coverage, it will last longer than most traditional liquid equivalents. And if you have to buy it less often, it will save you money.

Compared to other mineral makeup brands that are equally focussed on sustainability, All Earth Mineral Cosmetics is slightly more expensive, but still affordable.

Final Toughts

Switching to new makeup can be daunting, especially if you’re happy with your current one. But given how bad conventional makeup is for our environment, it’s worth looking into eco-friendly alternatives.

As my All Earth Mineral Cosmetics review has shown, sustainable makeup can be as good, if not better than regular makeup.

With great long-lasting coverage, no irritation, and a light comfortable feeling, this mineral makeup is a great alternative to your liquid one, and it won’t cost the earth.

But my favourite thing about this mineral makeup is how light it feels. It’s like not wearing any makeup at all, and I just love that.
