My SURI Review – Recyclable Toothbrush Heads [UPDATED 2025] – Many of us are looking for a sustainable alternative to things we use daily. Toothbrush heads are one such thing. In my SURI review I will look at their recyclable brush heads.

I’m on a mission to reduce the impact I have on our environment. One way I do this is by reducing the amount of waste I produce.

Having scrutinised my various daily routines, I realised how much waste oral care produces. One of the worst offenders were my electric toothbrush heads.

They are made from different types of plastic and can’t be recycled at home. Because you have to change them every 2–3 months, there are huge amounts that end up in landfill every year. I didn’t want to add to this waste.

So I looked at recyclable toothbrush heads that wouldn’t end up in landfill. In my SURI review I will share my experience with their brush heads and electric toothbrush.

Why I Chose SURI

screenshot of SURI website with mission statement

But before I get into the actual review, I want to explain why I have chosen SURI. Here at EcoHomeLife we are very selective about the products we try and review. That’s because there are a lot of cowboys out there who pretend to be eco-friendly but in reality aren’t.

So we do the legwork for you and only choose companies that have the right ethos and values and who produce truly sustainable products. Any company we recommend you can be sure that they don’t just use greenwashing, but are indeed eco-friendly businesses.

So what about SURI? They are a UK-based business that has one mission: to create a sustainable electric toothbrush that keeps your teeth clean. What I love is that they work using the principle of reuse, repair, recycle.

This means that they have created a toothbrush that can easily be repaired, keeping it out of landfill. They will reuse any parts of the toothbrushes they repair if possible. If not, they will recycle them.

Their toothbrush heads are made from plant-based plastic, also called bioplastic, and are recyclable. You get a pre-paid return envelope, in which you can send back your used toothbrush heads.

They will then either recycle them into new brush heads or something else. Nothing will end up in landfill, which is great.

The bags the toothbrush heads come in are home compostable, so there is zero waste.

SURI has really thought carefully about the materials they use. As I have already said, their brush heads are made from plant-based plastic. The head is made from cornstarch and the bristles from the oil of the castor bean.

So they don’t use any plastic made from petroleum, which is brilliant. We all know that we have to stop using fossil fuels.

The toothbrush itself is made from aluminium and steel, both of which can be recycled indefinitely.

What has really attracted me to SURI is the fact that they built their toothbrushes to last. That’s because they offer to repair them for free for life, as long as you are subscribed to their automatic brush heads delivery.

Given that I have to replace the brush heads regularly anyway, I might as well subscribe, get two heads every six months and know my toothbrush has a lifetime guarantee.

So it’s in their interest that they will last as long as possible. But it’s also designed so that it can easily be repaired. That’s not just good for your pocket, because it means it’s the last toothbrush you have to buy, but also for the planet.

Repairing is always better for the environment than replacing. And the way SURI operate, means they will recycle what is no longer usable and reuse what is.

But it doesn’t stop there. Their packaging is also sustainable, as it’s either compostable, reusable or recyclable. For example, the bag the replacement toothbrush heads come in can be composted at home.

And that’s why I chose SURI.

In-Depth SURI Review Of Their Recyclable Toothbrush Heads

You are probably reading this because you want to move away from electric toothbrush heads that end up in landfill. But at the same time you don’t want to compromise on having clean and healthy teeth, right?

I was the same. So in my SURI review I will look at different aspects that will help you to make an informed decision whether their toothbrush heads are worth it. This will include effectiveness and value for money.

Convenience: Order Process And Delivery

open box containing SURI products
My SURI order came within two days of ordering and was packed in a perfectly sized box, so no filler material was needed.

But I would like to start with another topic: convenience. It’s a big part of most people’s lives, so I wanted to look at how easy and convenient it is to get hold of these toothbrush heads.

And the good news is: very easy. Ordering happens online through SURI’s website, which is very easy to navigate. However, you can also buy your SURI on Amazon, which we all know is very convenient.

You get a toothbrush head when you buy the toothbrush, which you will need to buy as their heads only fit their own electric toothbrush. But more about that later.

Then you have two options: you can order heads as and when you need them, or you can do what we did and sign up to their subscription service. They will send you two new brush heads every six months.

What I love about this is that I don’t have to worry about it. You get an email a few weeks before they send them, so you know when they will arrive and if you don’t need them or your circumstances change, you can amend your subscription.

You can also easily cancel it if you need to. Not that I would ever want to do that; it’s far too convenient. Another big bonus for us is that with the subscription you get a lifetime guarantee for your toothbrush. This means if anything goes wrong, they will repair it for free.

This was the biggest draw to sign up for us to be honest.

On Amazon you can’t order the subscription, which is annoying. But you can get anything else from their Amazon store and with Amazon Prime you can get next-day delivery for free.

Once I placed my order on the SURI website, it took two days to get the toothbrush and brush heads, which I found great service. It arrived in a box that was made to fit all the components, so no need for fillers. I like that, because filling material is really just a waste, not needing to use it is so much better for our environment.

Another great thing is that the replacement heads come in a letterbox-friendly box, so you don’t even have to be in when they arrive. I love it when companies think things through. I mean, who has time to wait around for the postie to arrive?

Also, you don’t have to remember a password to access your SURI account. All you need is your email address, and they will send you an access link. I have so many different passwords to remember that it’s very refreshing to not need one for once.

So you see, SURI makes it very convenient for you to get hold of these recyclable toothbrush heads.

Compatibility

The SURI toothbrush is slim, elegant and made of aluminium and steel.

The next thing I would like to talk about in my SURI review is compatibility. As I have already said, their brush heads only fit their own electric toothbrush.

This is a shame, if you already have an electric toothbrush from another brand. I wouldn’t want you getting rid of a functioning toothbrush. That wouldn’t be good for your pocket or the environment.

But if, like me, your old toothbrush has reached the end of its life, and you are looking to get a new one, or you want to move from a manual to an electrical toothbrush, I would definitely recommend the SURI toothbrush.

And the reason is simple: it’s likely the last electric toothbrush you ever have to buy. And that’s because they will repair it if anything stops working. This is the most eco-friendly way to deal with thinks: repair don’t replace.

I’m a huge fan of companies repairing their products for me rather than expecting me to buy a new one. This should be standard practice, because it’s so much better for our environment.

But there is another reason why I like it so much. A company that is willing to repair their product, especially for free like SURI if you sign up to their brush head subscription, will produce a high quality product.

It’s not in SURI’s interest to have to repair their toothbrushes after only a year or two. Because that would mean they have to repair them and spend money. They will want the toothbrushes to last as long as possible, which means they have to create good quality.

And they actually designed them in a way that makes them easy to repair, unlike other brands. You even get a courtesy toothbrush to use while they are repairing yours.

Compare that with a company that doesn’t repair their toothbrushes. They won’t want their toothbrushes to last too long, because they want you to buy a new one soon.

Another great thing about the SURI electric toothbrush is that it doesn’t contain any plastic. It’s made from aluminium and steel, both of which can be recycled indefinitely. As such, these materials are much more sustainable.

Especially, because SURI will make sure that all parts of their toothbrushes are either reused or recycled, as long as they get them back. Nothing will go to landfill. Now that is how it should be!

Range

SURI products on a wooden surface
SURI focused on the things that are necessary rather than on gimmicks and useless features that aim at making more money.

The next topic I want to discuss in my SURI review of their recyclable toothbrush heads is the range of products they offer.

Unlike many big brands, SURI doesn’t do gimmicks and useless features. They focus on what’s necessary: a sustainable electric toothbrush, eco-friendly recyclable brush heads, a charger, a multifunctional travel case and a handy mirror mount.

The toothbrush is slim, lightweight and available in four colours. It has two modes: standard and polish. The latter provides a deeper clean, and you can feel it during and after brushing. I use this mode twice a week, to keep stains at bay.

One thing that stunned me was how long the battery lasts. It felt like ages the first few times. It lasts definitely over a month, probably closer to two between charges. No other electric toothbrush I ever owned lasted that long.

Unlike my old Oral-b toothbrush, the SURI one uses vibrations, which was new to me. It tickled a bit the first few times I brushed my teeth. Also, you have to be aware that you need to brush your teeth differently with a SURI than with an Oral-b or a manual brush.

But you will quickly get used to the new way of brushing. One thing you don’t have to get used to is a noisy toothbrush, because it’s much quieter than any electric toothbrush I ever owned. And it has a timer for two minutes, so you don’t have to worry if you brushed long enough.

The mirror mount is super handy, as it keeps the toothbrush safely off the sink.

Every 30 seconds it stops for a split section, so you know to move on to the next part of your mouth. Just like my old Oral-b did.

The plant-based brush heads come with medium/soft bristles. No such gimmicks like floss bits, which my dentist said don’t do a thing. SURI focused on creating a sustainable and recyclable brush head that gives your teeth an optimal clean, and got it approved by a dentist.

The bristles they use will also work for people with sensitive teeth or gums, which is great news if you suffer from this.

The charger comes with a USB cable, but if you want you can buy a plug. We have USB ports on our plugs, so this cable works perfectly.

The multifunctional travel case is really fancy. You can use it to charge your toothbrush, and it also has a UV cleaning function to keep your toothbrush clean during your travels. It needs to be plugged in though because SURI didn’t want to use another battery when it wasn’t necessary, as this is better for our environment.

The mirror mount is really handy. It’s basically a magnet that you can stick on your mirror or wall tiles to which your SURI toothbrush will stick to. It’s so practical, because it keeps the sink free and you won’t push over your toothbrush by mistake any more. (Or is it just me who used to do that???)

Results

Both my husband and I think that the SURI toothbrush gives our teeth an excellent clean.

Now let’s move on to how well these toothbrush heads clean your teeth. This is an important part of my SURI review, because to have healthy teeth you need to clean them properly. So having the right equipment is vital. You don’t want to compromise on that.

After getting used to the new way of brushing, I think my teeth now look and feel cleaner than ever before. I had a stain on one of my teeth, which disappeared after I used the polish mode for the first time.

I wasn’t sure about the brush head at first, because I was used to the round Oral-b one. Because I have quite a small mouth, I was worried that the bigger brush of the SURI head wouldn’t work for me. But I am very pleased to say that I can reach every corner of my mouth with it.

My husband also said that he thinks that the SURI toothbrush cleans his teeth better than the Oral-b one did he had before. His teeth certainly look very clean after brushing.

So my verdict is that the SURI brush head will give your teeth a great clean. And it’s plant-based, what more could you want?

Value For Money

a pink piggy bank next to a stack of coins

Probably knowing that it won’t cost you the earth to get a SURI toothbrush and replacement brush heads, right? Well, to be honest, the toothbrush isn’t the cheapest.

However, most Oral-b electric toothbrushes are similarly priced or much more expensive. And the Philips Sonicare toothbrushes are much more expensive than the SURI.

So while at first glance the SURI looks expensive, it’s not compared to the other big brands. And remember: it’s likely to be the last toothbrush you have to buy ever. Because you can get it repaired, for a small fee or for free with the brush head subscription.

Seen like that, it’s actually not expensive at all, because it will last you a lifetime.

The replacement toothbrush heads are really good value for money. They are cheaper than any Philips Sonicare replacement heads you can get. Compared to Oral-b, the SURI heads are either the same price, for their cheapest, or cheaper.

BUT: the SURI ones are made from plant-based plastic, which is recyclable. And you can send them back to them for free, so they can recycle them.

You don’t get that from any of other commonly used brands. For me, that is real value for money.

Recycle Scheme

It’s very easy to return your recyclable toothbrush heads. Stick them in the compostable mailer bag.

Then pop the bag in a postbox. That’s it, all done.

The reason I looked at SURI in the first place, was because I was looking for recyclable toothbrush heads. I didn’t want to throw them away and contribute to the plastic waste.

That’s why I will scrutinise their recycling scheme for my SURI review.

The first thing that struck me was that they actually make new brush heads out of them. At least they will once they have enough material from old brush heads. I have not seen that from any other eco-friendly brand that sells recyclable toothbrush heads.

Also, SURI do it all themselves, rather than passing it on to someone else, like TerraCycle. I like that, because it means they are taking full responsibility. They even explain in detail what their recycling process looks like.

That’s the kind of transparency you want from an eco-friendly brand. And they make it easy for you to send back the used brush heads too.

You get a compostable mailer bag when you order replacement brush heads. All you have to do is put the used heads in and drop the bag in a post box. Done! It’s as simple as that. They ask to wait until you have 4 heads so that the return delivery has a lower carbon footprint. They thought about everything.

It’s that easy to keep your used toothbrush heads out of landfill!

My husband, who also has a SURI, has recently had an issue with his toothbrush not charging. He contacted them and they gave him some troubleshooting tips but also said that they can arrange for it to be picked up and a new one sent out.

The old one would than be taken apart and the parts reused. The tips were very useful and sorted the problem though. But it’s good to know that they will replace it if it does one day stop working and reuse the parts.

Customer Reviews

So my SURI review has given you my experience with these recyclable brush heads and the toothbrush, but what about other people?

I always find it reassuring to look at reviews by real customers. It gives me the peace of mind and confidence to try a new product. So what do others think?

Well, SURI has over 8,000 reviews on Trustpilot and the vast majority are positive. They have a rating of 4.8 out of 5, which is excellent.

95% of these reviews gave a 4- or 5-star review.  Apart from the sustainability aspect, SURI’s happy customers love the clean they get from the brush and the long battery life.

Less than 3% gave a 1- or 2- star review. SURI replied to 99% of those and tried to turn the unhappy customers into happy customers. And that’s all you want. Things go wrong sometimes, but what matters is how it’s dealt with.

I had a problem with my SURI toothbrush a year or so after I had bought it. It needed charging every other day and my UV light case wasn’t working either. When I emailed them about it they were super lovely and very supportive. They sent me a replacement, including a new brush, charger and case.
It is one of my favourite toothbrushes as it is sustainable and the perfect size for how much I travel. I definitely recommend, it’s an investment!

5-Star review on Trustpilot

Love that everything is sustainable/recyclable with packaging and toothbrush heads. Handle feels sturdy and push button is tactile and feels like it will last. I’ve used 2 other brands electric to brushes and the button eventually failed long before the motor.
My teeth feel clean even without applying a lot of pressure when brushing. Definitely recommend.

Conclusion

So, what’s the verdict of my SURI review of their recyclable toothbrush heads and electric toothbrush? I’m a huge fan and can’t recommend them more highly.

Their ethos and sustainability efforts are brilliant. They’re making it easy for me and you to have a more sustainable oral care routine. I love that the brush heads are plant-based, because it means that they don’t use fossil fuels, which is hugely important to stop global warming.

SURI’s motto of repair, reuse and recycle is immensely progressive and what all companies should do. This attitude is the only thing that will help us protect our environment in future.

And you don’t have to compromise on effectiveness either, because your teeth will get a superior clean that will keep them healthy for years to come. I know I will stick with SURI for the rest of my life.

So if you are looking for your forever toothbrush that doesn’t just give you an excellent clean but also keeps your conscious clean, look no further. Get your SURI toothbrush now.
