EcoEgg Laundry Egg Review [UPDATED 2025] – In my search for an eco-friendly laundry detergent I came across this great product. In my EcoEgg laundry egg review I will tell you all about my experience using it.
I am on a journey to live a more sustainable life. Recently I have set my eyes on my laundry routine. And it turns out that there is a lot you can do to make a difference.
One of the main factors in creating a sustainable laundry routine is swapping to an eco-friendly laundry detergent. That’s because most conventional detergents are bad for us and the environment.
The EcoEgg laundry egg seemed like a great alternative to conventional nasty detergents, so I thought I would give it a go.
And because I know that many other people are also looking to change to a more sustainable lifestyle, I will share my experience with this product in my EcoEgg laundry egg review.

Why I Chose EcoEgg
I would like to start my EcoEgg laundry egg review by explaining why I chose to try a product from this particular company. I am very selective of the eco-friendly products I try and review on EcoHomeLife. That’s because I want to ensure that I only recommend truly eco-friendly companies that make products that work.
So why EcoEgg? Firstly, it’s a UK-based company that also produces their products in the UK. For me that’s important, because it means that the products haven’t been produced cheaply abroad and then shipped to the UK.
By buying products from UK companies that are made in the UK, we can reduce our carbon footprint. And we can be sure that the workers making them are treated well and are paid fairly.
EcoEgg as a company is also focused on doing their bit to save our planet. This is an important part of their values. And that’s the kind of business I want to support and recommend to others. The more we buy from such businesses, the more big corporations will listen and change their way of doing business, which is often not good for the environment.
Even though the laundry egg is made from plastic, it comes with a 10-year warranty and is likely to last much longer than this. And once it has reached the end of its life, it can be recycled.
I was also intrigued by the idea of not using a liquid detergent but pellets. While these pellets still contain detergent, you won’t find petrochemicals or chemicals that are harmful for us or the planet.
And all the chemicals used are biodegradable, making them so much better for the environment than the conventional detergents. One of the worst chemicals used in most detergents are fragrances. You have a choice of different fragrances with the laundry egg.
But they get their fragrances from natural oils, rather than synthetic chemicals, and that is much better for our environment.
Using the EcoEgg laundry egg is also better for your health. It was initially created for people with eczema and sensitive skin because the founder of EcoEgg suffered from it.
The packaging the laundry egg comes in is made from recycled cardboard that can be recycled in turn. That’s so preferable to all these plastic bottles and containers most other laundry detergents come in.
While the refill pellets come in a plastic bag, which is actually a mix of paper (60%) and plastic (40%), the company is constantly looking to improve. They have already reduced the amount of plastic they use in these bags.
And that is something I am looking for in a company. Not necessarily that they have solved all the problems, that’s just not possible in most cases, but that they are constantly looking to improve.
So this is why I chose EcoEgg.
In-Depth EcoEgg Laundry Egg Review
I am writing my EcoEgg laundry egg review because I want to help others find eco-friendly products that will help them live a more sustainable life. That’s why I will look at various factors that will help you to make a decision whether this product is for you.
I will look at factors that are important for decision-making, including results, value for money and ease of use.
Convenience
But I want to start my review with another important factor: convenience. If, like I was, you are used to buying your laundry detergent with your food shop, you don’t want to switch to a product that is not as convenient to buy, right?
The good news is, getting your EcoEgg laundry egg is easy. You can order it on Amazon, where they Ecoegg has its own store.
And very conveniently, where you can set up a subscription. This means you just have to choose how often you want it delivered and then forget about it. One big advantage with this is that you will know when to replace the pellets.
So as you can see, getting your hands on the EcoEgg laundry egg and the refill pellets is easy-peasy!
Ease Of Use
The next topic I want to talk about in my EcoEgg laundry egg review is ease of use. When you are considering switching to a different product, you want to know how easy it is to use, right?
The good news is that the laundry egg is very easy to use. The egg is easily opened by pressing on the white button and twisting the top in a clockwise direction. Add the pellets and close the egg by turning it the other way until you hear a click. Watch the video above for a short demonstration.
This child lock makes sure that little hands can’t get to the pellets and swallow them. But even so, I would recommend keeping the laundry egg out of sight and out of reach of children and pets. Just to be sure.
When you do your laundry, put your clothes in the washing machine and add the laundry egg on top. Then wash your clothes as normal.
Once the washing machine is done, take the egg out and leave it in a safe place, so the pellets can dry out. If you are doing another load, just throw it in again.
What I really love about the EcoEgg laundry egg is that there is no measuring or mess. It’s so easy to use.
When you buy your egg, you get pellets that are good for 70 washes. The refill pellets last for 50 washes. I found it difficult at first to know when I need to change them, as I didn’t count my wash loads (who does??).
But over time I found it easier to know when it’s time for new pellets. The instructions say to change the pellets when they have shrunk significantly and have little holes in them. And that does make it easier.
I have read that some people pre-soak the pellets if they use short cycles. Well, the shortest cycle I use is 30 minutes and I don’t soak the pellets beforehand, and it works fine.
You can even use the egg to handwash delicate items. All you have to do is soak the egg in the water for 5 to 10 minutes before handwashing your items.

Ecoegg also have detox tablets for your washing machine. I have been using Calgon for years, because we always lived in hard water areas and I wanted to ensure my machine didn’t get damaged by it.
But they are expensive, and some of the ingredients aren’t biodegradable and harmful to the environment.
So I decided to also try the Ecoegg detox tablets. None of their ingredients are harmful to aquatic life. And the detox tablets are much cheaper, because you only use one tablet once a month. And it’s simple to use: you just add one tablet to the empty washing machine and run the hottest cycle.
Any dirt and limescale build up will be removed, leaving you with a clean washing machine. Although you have to run the machine without laundry in, you only have to do it once a month.
After I used the tablets for the first time, my washing machine smelled a bit musty. However, the smell left after a while and my laundry smelled fresh.
The next time there wasn’t any musty smell, and I’m happy that my washing machine is clean.
The only slight drawback is that the tablets come in a plastic wrapper, which can’t be recycled at home. You can take it to your supermarket and recycle it with plastic bags. But I know that most people won’t do this. So I would like Ecoegg to look at this and find a better solution.

Results
Let’s talk about one of the most important factors: results. My EcoEgg laundry egg review wouldn’t be of any use if I wouldn’t share my experience of the results with you.
I started using the laundry egg about a year ago now. My main concern at the beginning was whether it would work with our gym clothes. Not that they necessarily get dirty, but you want to make sure that all the sweat gets washed out.
And I wasn’t disappointed. The gym clothes come out clean and smelling nice. I use the “fresh linen” scented pellets. Although I have also tried “spring blossom” which did also smell lovely. My husband said that since I use the laundry egg, the gym clothes smell better. Now that’s what I call a great result.
The only slight disadvantage is that the lovely smell doesn’t last very long. However, having used eco-friendly laundry detergents before, I am quite used to that.
I can compromise on a long-lasting smell for getting a laundry detergent that doesn’t use harmful chemicals. And it’s not like my washing smells bad; it just doesn’t smell. And that’s what clean is after all, the absence of bad odours and dirt.
The next test was our daily clothes, which can get the odd stain (mostly from food). I am very pleased to say that the laundry egg has no problem getting these clean either.
When it comes to really tough stains, the egg doesn’t always get them out. However, neither did the conventional laundry detergents I used to buy.
So if any tough stains come my way, I just pre-treat them. I mix some bicarbonate of soda (also called baking soda) with water to a thick paste. Then I smear the paste on the stain and leave it for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how bad the stain is.
Then just throw the garment in the washing machine and wash as normal using your laundry egg. Job done!
One thing you should be aware of though is that the EcoEgg laundry egg doesn’t work that well if the washing machine is really full. It needs space to move around the laundry to work properly.
This means, don’t fill your machine too full. This is a slight disadvantage, as I am trying to do fewer loads possible. However, it’s not that the washing machine has to be only half full, just not full to the brim. So it’s not that big of an issue.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you have to wash at a minimum temperature of 15°C (60°F). This shouldn’t be a problem for most people though, unless you are washing in cold water.
And in case you have a septic tank, like us, you will be pleased to hear that the laundry egg is safe to use if you have one.
I have seen that the EcoEgg laundry egg doesn’t really have the best reviews on Trustpilot, with many people saying that it doesn’t work. I was quite surprised and don’t understand why, because my experience is that it works great.
Especially on our gym clothes, which now actually smell better than they did before. I am not sure why so many people have problems with this product, because I love it and I think it works great. I wouldn’t go back to a conventional laundry detergent.
EcoEgg has added conditioner to their pellets, which is great if you use fabric conditioner, because it means you can ditch two plastic bottles.
I don’t but I have to admit that the laundry does feel softer than before. I can feel the biggest difference with towels and I have to say, it’s nice when they are soft and cosy.
Value For Money
Another very important factor when deciding to switch to a different product is the question of value for money. Especially with eco-friendly products, as often they can be a bit more expensive than conventional equivalents.
That’s why I had to include this in my EcoEgg laundry egg review. The good news is, the laundry egg is actually cheaper.
When you buy the egg, you get pellets for 70 washes for a price that is cheaper than buying some supermarket own brand laundry pods. Once you have your egg, you can buy refills which last for 50 washes.
These are considerably cheaper than any branded laundry detergent and also cheaper than most supermarket own brands.
So not only can you save the planet by using the EcoEgg laundry egg, but you can also save money. Isn’t that great?
But on top of that you also get a laundry detergent that is free from petrochemicals, harmful chemicals and microplastics. Now that’s what I call great value for money.
Customer Reviews
I like to know what others think of a product before I decide to try it myself. So I have looked at customer reviews for the EcoEgg on independent review sites.
On Turstpilot, they have a 4.3-star rating from just over 200 reviews. 48% of customers have rated them either ‘Great’ or ‘Excellent’.
What people love the most is how well it works while being gentle on skin and how good value for money it is.
34% have given the EcoEgg a 1-star rating, which is quite a lot. However, only one of the reviews is from last year, the rest is from earlier. This suggests to me that whatever the issue was, it has been sorted out.
I have been using ecceggs since lockdown after seeing how the products was used on television programmes. It simple was a no brainer & certainly do not see myself reverting back. Most of my family & friends have changed their mindset after seeing the results.

Conclusion
So what is the conclusion of my EcoEgg laundry egg review? Three words: I love it. And I would recommend this little egg to everyone who wants to switch to an eco-friendly laundry detergent.
While it won’t get rid of really tough stains, it does a good job at everyday stains and leaves my washing clean and feeling soft. Even our sweaty gym clothes come out fresh and smelling nice.
Despite this product getting quite a few negative reviews, we haven’t had any problems. Having used our laundry egg for about a year now, we can honestly say that it was a great swap, and we wouldn’t go back to conventional laundry detergent.
And the best of all, you can save money. Using the EcoEgg laundry egg is cheaper than buying conventional laundry detergent.
So if you want to wash your laundry without the harmful chemicals, then give the laundry egg a go.
