Homethings Laundry Pods Review [UPDATED 2025] – Looking for a more eco-friendly laundry detergent? In our Homethings laundry pods review we share our experience with these eco-friendly laundry capsules.

Changing to an eco-friendly laundry detergent is part of creating a sustainable laundry routine. Most of the chemicals used in conventional detergents are toxic for us and the environment.

So swapping to eco-friendly alternatives will make a big difference. The good news is that there are quite a few UK-based companies focused on creating effective laundry products that don’t contain nasty and toxic chemicals.

Homethings is one of those companies. In my Homethings laundry pods review I will share my experience with their eco-friendly detergent capsules.

Why I tried Homethings

screen shot of homethings webiste about their values

Here at EcoHomeLife we have strict criteria on how we choose the brands we try and review. Because our aim is to help people live a more sustainable life, we will only recommend brands that have the right values.

One criterion is that the products are produced as close to home as possible, so preferably in the UK or at least in Europe, whenever possible. That’s because shipping a product around the world for no obvious reason is just not eco-friendly.

Homethings is a UK-based company who manufacture most of their products right here in the UK and some in Europe. They have put our environment at the heart of everything they do.

For one, they only sell concentrated products. This reduces the carbon footprint of their products, because transporting them will use less energy.

All their packaging is plastic free and recyclable and their plastic bottles are reusable, which are designed to last for years to come. And once they are at the end of their life, they can be recycled. And in case your council doesn’t accept the spray trigger, you can send it back to Homethings, and they will recycle it for you.

That way, there is no waste. But what I love most about Homethings‘ products is that they don’t use any toxic or harmful chemicals. And all their cleaners are also free from petrochemicals.

However, one thing you should know is that they aren’t necessarily using only natural ingredients. Some of the chemicals they use are synthetic, but always plant-based and never toxic or harmful. And all the chemicals they use are biodegradable.

They are using a PVA film for their laundry pods. While this isn’t ideal, because PVA is a plastic film made from petroleum-derived substances, at the moment there isn’t really any plant-based alternative.

The PVA dissolves in water, but scientists aren’t in agreement about its biodegradability. You can find out more about this topic in our guide about whether laundry pods are bad for the planet.

So while I would prefer to see Homethings not to use a PVA film, for now there isn’t a better solution. But I hope that they will find an alternative for this very soon.

All in all, I love that Homethings is doing anything they can to help us keep our laundry routine as eco-friendly as possible. And that’s why I have chosen them.

In-Depth Homethings Laundry Pods Review

I want you to help decide whether Laundrythings (which is what they call their laundry pods, I love it) could be the product for you. So in my Homethings laundry pods review, I will look at various factors that will be important for you to make a decision.

These factors will include value for money and effectiveness among others.

Convenience

screenshot of homethings website

But I would like to start with a different topic: convenience. We are so used to getting things easy and quickly, that it has become an important part of our decision-making process. Convenience has become key for many people.

So how convenient is it to get Laundrythings? Well, my review will tell you: it’s very easy.

The good news is you can buy Laundrythings on the Homethings website. And you can subscribe to their automatic delivery service.

There is even a tool on the website that helps you find out how often you will need a new delivery of the pods. Just tell them how often a week you put on the washing machine, and they’ll tell you the right frequency.

Once you have set up the subscription, you get it delivered according to your chosen schedule and don’t have to worry about it. You get a reminder three days before it gets shipped, so if anything has changed you can skip a delivery, change the frequency or cancel.

It doesn’t get more convenient than that! And on top of all that, you even save money if you sign up to their subscription service.

I love a good subscription service, because it means you can forget about it and never run out. And don’t worry if you aren’t in for the delivery. The pods are in a box that will fit through your letterbox. I love it when companies think things through.

Ease Of Use

The next factor I want to discuss in my Homethings laundry pods review is how easy they are to use. After all, nobody wants to faff around when doing the laundry. It’s enough work as it is.

Well, what can I say? The Laundrythings pods work like any other laundry pods. Just put one capsule in the empty drum of your washing machine, then add your laundry. And wash using your normal cycle.

The detergent powder in the capsule is designed to work well at low temperatures, which is great, because I don’t wash any hotter than 30°C because this is better for the environment.

And because each capsule contains the right amount for a standard load, there is no messing about with measuring. I love that about laundry pods.

If you have particularly dirty clothes, then you can add two pods to make sure the tough stains come out. I have tried that with our gardening clothes and all the stains disappeared.

As you can see, it’s very easy to use the Homethings laundry pods.

The pods also dissolved completely every single wash. I have had issues with that before with other brands, so was pleased to see that this wasn’t an issue with Laundrythings

Update: Homethings has changed their pods to sheets. In part to make them more eco-friendly, as they are thinner and lighter, which means fewer emissions during transport.

But also in response to customer feedback. Some have said that the pods didn’t dissolve properly during the wash. The sheets are thinner and therefore dissolve much easier. Problem solved!

One thing didn’t change though and that is the performance. The Sheets will clean your laundry just as well as the the pods did. Read on to find out how good Laundrythings is.

Now we are coming to the most important part of my Homethings laundry pods review: do they work? Let’s face it: if they can’t get your laundry clean, you won’t buy them. And why would you?

So let’s cut to the chase. I tried Laundrythings laundry capsules myself and they work great. I have tried them with various types of laundry.

A box standard weekly wash load of our clothes. They don’t really get that dirty, apart from the odd stain, mostly from food.

The Homethings laundry pods did a great job with this type of load, getting rid of the light stains that occasionally occur.

The washing came out clean and fresh, just what I wanted. The next test was the gym clothes. While they don’t get dirty, apart from the odd mud splatter when out running, we sweat a lot when working out.

So it’s vital that any laundry detergent I use can cope with this, as we do a lot of exercise. For me, the main issue is the smell. I don’t want my gym clothes to smell of sweat all the time.

Laundrythings also did a good job with this type of load. Getting rid of sweat and leaving our workout kit clean and without evil odours.

The final test were clothes with tough stains, such as our gardening clothes. Apart from mud, they are covered with green smears from all sorts of plants and grass, red stains from various fruits, such as tomatoes or strawberries and the odd blood stain from getting scratched or something.

An afternoon working in the garden can amass an amazing amount of different stains. So could the Homethings laundry pods cope?

Mostly. The odd stain didn’t come out. But to be fair, the conventional detergent pods I used to use didn’t manage all tough stains either.

It’s not a big issue, all it means that tougher stains need pre-treating. My favourite eco-friendly stain remover: bicarbonate of soda. Just mix some with water to make a thick paste.

Rub it on the stain and leave for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how bad the stain is. Then wash as normal. Simple, effective and environmentally friendly!

Alternatively, you can just add two capsules for tough stains. I tried that too and all the stains on our gardening clothes came out.

So, the results I got from Laundrythings in terms of cleanliness and stain removal were pretty good. No worse than the detergent with harmful chemicals I used before turning to eco-friendly detergents.

But what about the smell? I know that many people want their freshly washed laundry to smell lovely. I tried Homethings scented laundry capsules: lazy daisy.

It’s a lovely smell that isn’t overpowering. The fresh smell doesn’t stay around too long though. However, this is not unusual for eco-friendly products.

Commonly used fragrances that last for weeks are really bad for the environment, causing great harm to aquatic life. Eco-friendly products like Laundrythigns don’t use them.

That’s why the scent might not hang around for as long. I have learned that clean doesn’t smell. So as long as my laundry doesn’t smell bad, I’m happy.

They also have a non-scented version for anyone who is sensitive to fragrances.

Value For Money

value for money

Let’s move on to our next topic: value for money. My Homethings laundry pods review wouldn’t be complete without looking at this important factor.

The good news is that you won’t be out of pocket when switching to the Homethings laundry capsules. They are similarly priced or cheaper than conventional laundry pods you can buy in the supermarket.

And if you subscribe to their automatic delivery service, you can save even more.

While all this is a great reason to switch to Laundrythings, I have another one: you get rid of harmful and toxic chemicals and plastic waste.

If that’s not great value for money, then I don’t know what is.

Customer Reviews

I have shared my experience with Laundrythings with you. But as part of my Homethings laundry pods review I also look at what other customers have said.

They have a 4.7-star rating on Trustpilot from over 1,200 reviews. 92% of customers are happy, giving a 4- or 5-star rating to Homethings.

Apart from the performance, these happy customers are really pleased with the eco-friendly aspect as it allows them to become more sustainable.

It’s always good to see that others agree with my conclusion.

Only 5% of customers found it necessary to give a 1- or 2-star review. The main issue people seem to have is with the washing-up liquid. And I understand, as I too found it a bit tricky to get the powder into the bottle.

But even if the resulting washing-up liquid was thinner than I was used to, it cleaned my dirty pots really well.

Homethings has replied to 100% of the negative reviews and tried their best to find a solution.

It’s good to find genuine eco conscious products that 1) WORK 2) are a practical answer and 3) don’t upset sensitive skin (laundry sheets)
Thank you

5-Star Review on Trustpilot

Excellent dish washer tablets and washing sheets. Best I’ve ever found – I’ve been looking for and trying environmental products for a long time. Bought the sponges too – so pleased to find an environmental friendly sponge – and they last for ages!
Will start exploring their other products too.

Conclusion

To conclude my Homethings laundry pods review, I can heartily recommend them to anyone who wants to switch to an eco-friendly laundry detergent.

The capsules are easy to use, work great, smell lovely and are free from any toxic chemicals.

There is no plastic waste and all products come in concentrated form, reducing their carbon footprint even further.

Their customer reviews are great. It seems that most customers love Laundrythings just as much as I do.

On top of all that, Homethings’ laundry pods are also great value for money and if you sign up for their subscription service you save even more money, and you get the capsules delivered to your door when you need them.

If you want to create a sustainable laundry routine, then the Laundryhtings is the eco-friendly laundry detergent you are looking for.
