One look in your bathroom cupboard will probably be enough to realise that we have far too much plastic waste in our lives. Let’s change that and move to a zero-waste bathroom.
When I started on my journey to a more sustainable life, the bathroom is where I began. I didn’t like all the plastic packaging and disposable items I was using. The amount of waste I created was quite disconcerting.
So I set about to change all that and move to a personal care routine that was better for our environment.
Here, I have put together a list of the best zero-waste bathroom products you can get in the UK.

How I Chose My Products
To make it on this list, the products had to fulfil certain criteria. The first one is, of course, that they have to be eco-friendly. This means they are made and sold by a sustainable company, ideally UK-based or at least in Europe.
If possible, they should also manufacture their products and source their ingredients or materials as locally as possible. If they make them/source them further afield, they have to show that they ensure they work with sustainable companies and have a sustainable supply chain.
The products themselves have to be made with sustainable materials or ingredients. This means, ideally plastic-free and natural ingredients, definitely no synthetic ingredients made from petrochemicals.
The packaging also needs to be eco-friendly, with plastic-free and zero-waste as the gold standard.
Apart from this, there are other important criteria the eco-friendly bathroom products have to meet:
- Work well – it’s no good as a sustainable alternative if it doesn’t do what it’s meant to
- Save you money – most of us just don’t have the money to buy more expensive alternatives
So after looking at all these criteria, I have chosen my favourite eco-friendly bathroom products to help you on your journey to a zero-waste bathroom.
4 Best Zero-Waste Bathroom Products In The UK For A Tight Budget
#1 Shoreline Safety Razor (Our Rating: 4.9/5)
Shaving is one of those activities that can produce a lot of waste. Whether you use disposable plastic razors or reusable plastic ones with disposable cartridges, you create a lot of waste.
They can’t be recycled because they are made of different materials, such as different plastics and metal. The solution is a safety razor that is made of metal and uses metal double-edge blades that can be recycled.
No plastic, no waste, just what I was looking for. Shoreline is a family-run, UK-based company that is focused on reducing plastic waste. So the environment is high up on their agenda, which is how it should be.
While it can take a while to get used to using a safety razor when you have used one with blade cartridges for years, once you get the hang of it, you won’t go back.
Shoreline is very helpful, sending you guides, and tips and tricks by email to help you master the skill of shaving with a safety razor.
It took me about 6 months to get the technique right, but now I love it. I get such a smoother shave than with my previous razor with four blades. It also lasts longer, which is great.
Because the metal razor has been built to last, it’s probably the last razor I have to buy. In addition, Shoreline offers a lifetime guarantee for parts, which is the icing on the cake.
The blades themselves are really cheap and being metal can be recycled again and again. Given how expensive balde cartigdes are, you can save a lot of money.
So this is definitely a must-have if you want a zero-waste bathroom.

#2: Bain And Savon Shampoo Bar (Our Rating: 4.9/5)
Shampoo bars are definitely one of the best zero-waste bathroom products in the UK. And my absolute favourite is the shampoo bar from Bain ad Savon.
This small, UK-based business makes most of the products, including their shampoo bars, by hand right here. They only use natural ingredients, not harmful chemicals in sight, which are also biodegradable.
They only use plastic-free, recyclable packaging, so there is no waste whatsoever. Brilliant!
I have chosen their Botanical range, from which I tried several different ones. In terms of performance, it’s top-notch. The shampoo bar lathers up well, leaving my hair clean.
The scent is subtle, but gorgeous, especially the one of the Monoi De Tahiti, which has an exotic perfume. Bain and Savon don’t use synthetic fragrances, which is great. But it also means that the scent doesn’t stay on the hair for long.
While this is kind of a shame, I got used to it. And now I wouldn’t like my hair to smell overly of a scent.
What I love most about their shampoo bars is that they use high-quality ingredients. And this is proven by how healthy and shiny my hair looks after using their botanical solid shampoos.
It’s luxury without the price tag or environmental impact. I don’t even need a conditioner, because my hair is easily managed, which is no mean feat. I have long, thick hair, which can be a challenge to brush after washing, but not with these solid bars.

#3: LiveCoCo Crystal Salt Deodorant (Our Rating: 4.87/5)
LiveCoCo again. They have a solution to the problem of conventional deodorants, which are bad for the planet, especially aerosol deodorants: a crystal salt deodorant.
This deodorant block only has one ingredient: crystal salt, which is a natural ingredient. Salt is a water-loving substance that kills bacteria by dehydrating them. Because it’s bacteria that are causing body odour, salt can be used to prevent it.
The crystal salt deodorant basically creates a hostile environment for bacteria, and so keeps any smells at bay. So much for the theory, but does it work in practice?
Yes, it does. However, you have to consider that you will sweat, as it won’t stop you from doing so like an antiperspirant. It also doesn’t contain any sweat-absorbing substances, like other natural deodorants.
I sweat quite a lot, and my armpits did get damp on occasions, but most of the time, I didn’t smell of sweat.
What I love most about the LiveCoCo crystal salt deodorant block is that it lasts forever. This makes it much cheaper than any antiperspirant spray I ever bought. So if saving money is your top priority, then this is your eco-friendly swap.
It also comes in recyclable packaging, so perfect for your zero-waste bathroom.

#4: LiveCoCo Recyclable Toothbrush Heads (Our Rating: 4.78/5)
Brushing your teeth is a necessity to keep your mouth healthy, but it can also create a lot of waste. The amount of electric toothbrush heads I have been throwing away over the years was staggering.
But then I found LiveCoCo, a UK-based brand that is focussed on making products that are zero-waste. They have a wide range of different products, including oral care products.
Their recyclable toothbrush heads can be sent back to them to be recycled. This means they are kept out of landfill. They have brush heads that are suitable for electric toothbrushes with round brush heads, such as Oral-B, but also ones that fit sonic toothbrushes, like Philips.
LiveCoCo‘s recyclable alternatives are much cheaper than other brands, especially if you buy bigger quantities. This is great news for anyone wanting to save money while protecting the environment.
But what about performance? The fit of these recyclable toothbrush heads is great, I didn’t feel a difference to the Oral-B ones. And they cleaned my teeth just as well.
They also come in sustainable packaging, so no plastic waste. These are a great swap for a zero-waste bathroom.
