Why I Chose LiveCoco

Why I chose LiveCoCo

When we switch to eco-friendly products with the aim of living a more sustainable life, we want to make sure that the products we choose are truly sustainable. This means whoever we buy them from needs to be a company with sustainability at its heart.

Otherwise, we would just support a brand that sells products that are bad for the environment, but has an eco-range to cash in on people wanting to live a greener life. So we start each of our reviews explaining why we chose the brands we have selected.

I came across LiveCoco when I was looking for recyclable toothbrush heads for my electric toothbrush. And when I discovered they also sell a natural deodorant, I had to try it.

LiveCoco is a UK-based company and was originally started as a company selling coconut products. However, when they realised how they impacted on our environment they made a drastic decision. They changed their business model away from coconut products to eco-friendly products.

Getting rid of any single-use plastic in their range was one step. But they went further. They changed their range to only feature products that won’t impact negatively on our planet.

They even developed a closed-loop recycling system for their toothbrush heads to ensure that the plastic used won’t become plastic waste. All their products and packaging are either 100% compostable or recyclable.

Their crystal salt deodorant doesn’t contain any toxic or harmful chemicals. Instead, it consists only of one ingredient: potassium alum salt. This naturally occurring mineral won’t harm the environment.

But what I love most about LiveCoco is that they constantly look for ways to make their business even more eco-friendly. The recognition that more can be done is what makes them such a great small company to support, in my opinion.

They even ask their community of customers for suggestions, which they will implement if possible. And that’s why I chose LiveCoco.

My Experience With The LiveCoco Crystal Salt Deodorant

When you consider moving away from a product you like and that works for you, you want to make sure you switch to an alternative that you like and will work just as well or even better. I’m the same.

My LiveCoco crystal salt deodorant review is based on my personal experience with this product. I have tried it for several months, so I can give you an honest opinion on how it performs in cooler and warm weather.

First Impression

The salt deodorant is smaller than I expected.

When the crystal salt deodorant block arrived, I was a bit sceptical. How on earth should this hard block of salt keep my armpits from smelling bad? However, I know that salt has antibacterial properties, which means it should keep odour-causing bacteria at bay.

One thing I was surprised about was that it was so small. It’s meant to last at least 6 months, so I was expecting a bigger deodorant block. But then you don’t use much at all. Spoiler alert: I’m using it for over 6 months now and there is still lots of it left.

You just wet it under the tap and rub it all over your armpit, that’s it. I did for some reason expect it to sting, because it’s made of salt. But it didn’t. It glides easily when wet, and it doesn’t take long to dry at all.

The LiveCoco salt deodorant comes with a natural fibre string attached, which is very handy because you can hang it up, so it dries quickly. This will make sure it lasts as long as possible.

Did It Stop Body Odour?

This little salt crystal block keeps BO at bay even in warm weather.

The simple answer is yes. Even in warm weather or when doing something more active, like vacuuming or walking, my armpits didn’t smell of body odour.

However, my underarms did get damp on occasions. That’s because this deodorant doesn’t contain any moisture-absorbing ingredients like other deodorants. It’s something you should consider. While many people might not mind, for others it might be an issue.

While it was something I had to get used to, I actually didn’t mind it. Mainly, because it was only every so often. But also because it didn’t mean my armpits smelled badly. And once the dampness had gone away, I felt fresh again.

There were some occasions when the LiveCoco salt deodorant didn’t work: when I was stressed or nervous. After a stressful meeting, I noticed that my armpits smelled of sweat.

Stress sweat comes from a different gland and contains protein, which bacteria love. So this type of sweat tends to be stronger, which explains why the deodorant block didn’t live up to its promise.

However, it wasn’t like I was stinking. But if you are often in stressful situations that make you sweat, you might want to keep this in mind.

Even though the majority of the time the salt deodorant did stop body odour, there isn’t a scent. That’s because it doesn’t contain any fragrance. That’s great if you have sensitive skin and fragrances cause irritation.

I don’t mind that there is no scent and my husband said it’s the main reason he likes it. But it might not be for everyone.

All in all, I was quite impressed with the performance, despite the occasional dampness and smell of stress sweat.

What Other Customers Think

Before I try a new product, I always check what others who used it think. It just reassures you.

They have a 4.7- rating out of 5 on Trustpilot from over 70 reviews. 94% of their customers rated them ‘Great’ or ‘Excellent’.

One thing that stood out from the vast majority of customer reviews is that people love LiveCoco’s ethos. They love that using their products helps them to reduce plastic waste in their home.

It’s also clear that the recyclable toothbrush heads are their bestseller, as it’s the most reviewed item. The crystal salt deodorant does get some mentions too, which are positive. Again, the fact there is no plastic is one of the main features mentioned.

But also the absence of any nasty ingredients. In terms of effectiveness, customers are happy with the LiveCoco salt deodorant. One expressed their surprise at how effective it was even when exercising.

LiveCoco actually stopped selling it for a while, but brought it back due to popular demand. That tells you a lot about what their customers think about it.

There was one user who said that the edges of the block became sharp with use, which scratched their skin. While I haven’t had this problem, I can see how this would put you off.

Price Point

When it comes to price, the LiveCoco deodorant block is excellent value for money. Lasting at least 6 months, depending on how much you use it, it’s cheaper than any conventional antiperspirants or deodorants.

I calculated that at the current price [correct as of July 2024] and assuming it lasts 6 months, it costs you £1.66 a month. Most conventional deodorants are priced at that or more for one spray bottle, which will last around 2 weeks, in my experience.

You can save more money if you buy more than one block at the time. And if you sign up to their subscription service, you can save even more.

Verdict Of My LiveCoco Crystal Salt Deodorant Review

So would I recommend the LiveCoco salt crystal block deodorant? Yes, absolutely. It’s effective at keeping body odour at bay.

However, you will have to consider that it won’t absorb moisture, so you might feel damp every now and again. It’s something you need to get used to for sure.

With no fragrance ingredients, there won’t be any scent either. I think that strong scents are overrated anyway, but it’s a question of preference.

One thing is for sure though, swapping to LiveCoco’s natural salt deodorant will save you money, and who doesn’t like that?

A final piece of advice: if you are swapping away from an antiperspirant, you will likely experience a transition phase. During this period your body adjusts to being able to sweat again.

I had to go through it and I documented my experience with the transition period in an article so that you know what to expect.
