KinKind Shampoo Bar Review [UPDATED 2025] – The amount of plastic bottles we are using is staggering, so I was looking for a shampoo bar to cut out the plastic. I found a brand called KinKind and decided to write a review to share my experience.

For a while now, I have been looking into ways to reduce the plastic in my life. I decided to look at products I use regularly and look for plastic-free alternatives.

As washing my hair is part of my routine, I decided to start with my shampoo bottle. 

To my delight, there were quite a few brands that offered plastic-free alternatives in the form of shampoo bars.

After some research, I decided to try KinKind and in this review I will share my experience with you.

Why I Chose KinKind?

One thing that attracted me to KinKind is the fact that it’s a UK-based family company. 

Like myself, they wanted to reduce the amount of plastic they are using in their life. And after making some changes in their family, they decided to create their own plastic-free range of products.

So in 2019, KinKind was born. Because the environment is at the heart of what they do, in fact the reason they have started the business, I can be sure that their products will be sustainable and eco-friendly.

Another thing that I really liked was that they also sold conditioner bars. I found that a lot of brands only sold shampoo ones. 

Because I have long thick hair, I absolutely need a conditioner to be able to comb my hair after I have washed it.

One of my biggest concerns in swapping from a liquid shampoo to a solid shampoo bar was that my hair wouldn’t feel as nice.

I had soap in my mind, which always makes my hands feel dry, and I was worried that it might be the same with a shampoo bar.

So in my review I will look at different aspects to decide if I would recommend the product to others.

Order Process

The first aspect I want to look at is the ordering process. 

I don’t know about you, but I like it to be easy and simple. KinKind have their own shop on Amazon. This means getting your hands on one of their products is very easy.

What’s even better, if you have Amazon Prime, you can get next day delivery without having to pay for it. It doesn’t get better than this, or does it?

Yes it does. You can use Amazon’s subscription service, which means you get your KinKind shampoo bar sent when you need it, and you can save money. I love subscription services because it means you can just set the frequency and forget about it.

And if things change, you can just change or cancel the subscription. Now that’s what I call very convenient.

Feel And Smell

When it comes to personal hygiene products, smell is really important to me, especially with a shampoo. If my hair smells great after I washed it, it makes me feel happy.

And the longer the smell lasts, the better. So I had to include this element in my KinKind shampoo bar review.

When I first got the bars, I was a bit worried. While the bars did smell nice, it wasn’t as strong as with a bottle of shampoo.

But once I used it, my worries were gone. I tried the NOURISH me! bar and it smelled heavenly of coconut. Just the way I like it!

The bar also lathered up very well, no difference to a liquid shampoo and left my hair feeling properly clean. 

The big test came after I had dried my hair, because I want my hair to feel soft. And I am very pleased to reveal in my KinKind shampoo bar review that this is exactly what I got: it left my hair soft and feeling luxurious.

And even softer after I tried the Give me STRENGTH! shampoo bar, which had a lovely but not overwhelming smell of lavender.

I have to say here, that I did also use the conditioner bar, as I have long thick hair, so I would assume that this will have played a role in the great result too. However, I have now also tried the KinKind shampoo bar without the conditioner bar and to my surprise found out that I didn’t need the conditioner.

Despite having long thick hair, the KindKind shampoo bar left my hair manageable. I have never experienced this with a liquid shampoo before. I always needed a conditioner. So I’m really pleased, because it means I can ditch the conditioner, which is great news.

Use

I found the shampoo bar really easy to use, and it fits perfectly into your hand.

You just wet it and start rubbing it on your hair. It starts to lather up immediately. The foam is really soft, and it is easy to cover all hair. It works perfectly for my long thick hair.

KindKind even provides a handy video to explain how to use their shampoo bars.

In fact, there is not much difference from using a liquid shampoo at all, apart from the fact that you reduce plastic waste by two plastic bottles.

There is also no transition period; you just buy the shampoo bar and when your liquid shampoo is finished, and start using it.

Range

Because we are used to being able to buy a shampoo that works with our hair type, I could not leave this part out of my review.

And the range of products is impressive, given that they are a small family-run business. Whether you have dry hair, curly hair, coloured hair, a sensitive scalp, frizzy hair, dandruff, fine hair or even damaged hair or dull hair, you will find the shampoo and conditioner bar for you.

They also have 2 in 1 shampoo and body wash bars and even a dog shampoo bar.

Apart from shampoo and conditioners, they also do body wash bars, moisture bars (which is a solid hand cream bar), body scrub bars and shave bars. 

Quality

When it comes to swapping from liquid shampoos to shampoo bars, you don’t want to compromise on quality, so in my KinKind shampoo bar review I have looked in detail at this aspect.

I was pleased to find that KinKind only uses high quality, natural ingredients, which are silicone free, paraben free and SLES free. 

All their shampoo bars are also vegan and cruelty-free, which is important to me.

And their shampoo bars have also won some industry awards, which show that they are producing quality products. 

The awards KinKind’s shampoo bars have won include:

While it is not necessary for a product to win industry awards to prove it is high quality, it does help to give reassurance.

Value For Money

Whenever you swap a product for another, you want to make sure that you are still getting value for money.

At first glance, the shampoo bar appears to be more expensive than many other brands of liquid shampoos. However, if you consider that a KinKind shampoo bar lasts as long as two plastic bottles, the picture changes.

Because then the KinKind bars are not more expensive than many other brands. 

So you can have shampoo bars that keep your hair soft and reduce your plastic waste without breaking the bank. And if you sign up to Amazon’s subscription service for the shampoo bar, you can save money too.

Reviews By Customers

One thing I did before giving these bars a go was to have a look at what other customers have said.

I think reading about other people’s experience with a product is always very useful, that’s why I have included this section in my KinKind shampoo bar review.

And I have to say, their reviews were mostly positive, with 98% on Facebook saying they would recommend their products.

On Trustpilot, they have a 4.1-star rating, although their profile isn’t claimed, which means they don’t pay for it. 75% of customers rated KinKind excellent or great.

Many people love that they can reduce their plastic waste by switching to these shampoo bars or products in general, which was the reason why the majority of customers first considered them.

There are some negative reviews as well, some saying the products didn’t work for them. Others weren’t happy with the the customer service.

However, these negative views weren’t dominant, giving me reassurance that they are in the minority.

I was also encouraged by the different hair types, such as colour-treated hair, fine hair, greasy hair, dandruff and oily hair, because it meant that I would be able to find a shampoo bar that will work for me.

I used the shampoo and conditioner ( for coloured hair) for the first time today, fabulous fabulous fabulous! I hardly rubbed the shampoo bar on my hair and wow loads of lather, then rinsing took seconds, the conditioner was also lovely.
My hair feels really clean, soft and it’s shiny! Sorry starting to sound like a shampoo advert but this product is really great, I’m converted.

How Long Does It Take Hair To Adjust To A Shampoo Bar?

This is a question I asked myself. And the answer is, no time at all.

Although KinKind uses only natural ingredients, there is no transition period. That’s because they use cleanser in their products, but they are all plant derived.

That also means that I had no problem whatsoever using the shampoo bar with hard water. We live in a very hard water area and that can cause problems, but not with the KinKind shampoo bar.

My hair was clean and soft from the first wash and looked healthy and shiny.

I tried the NOURISH me! bar, which contains coconut oil, and has done wonders for my dry hair. This nourishing shampoo bar has been just as good as any other shampoo I used.

Can You Use Shampoo Bars daily?

Yes, you can use a shampoo bar daily.

The liquid shampoo contains a lot of water (80% according to research), whereas a bar is super concentrated, but this is the only difference.

The upside of this is that you don’t need to use a lot when using a bar, because when it comes in contact with water, it will lather up very well.

And that means that the shampoo bars will last longer than bottles of shampoo.

Does A Shampoo Bar Dry Out Your Hair?

When I first looked into swapping my bottles of shampoo for bars, I was worried it would dry out my hair. And I guess many other people have the same concerns, so I wanted to address this question in my KinKind shampoo bar review.

I remembered using soap to wash my hands when I was younger and always feeling my skin was dry afterwards. So I wondered if it would be the same with a shampoo bar.

I am very pleased to announce, as part of this KinKind shampoo bar review, that the KinKind bars won’t dry out your hair.

On the contrary, my hair felt soft and healthy after I washed it with the shampoo bar.

How To Store Your Shampoo Bar?

Because I am new to shampoo bars and didn’t know myself, I wanted to cover this question in my KinKind shampoo bar review.

During my research, I found out that you need to store your shampoo bars outside the shower cubicle, because if they get wet, they will get wasted.

Ideally, you need a wooden rack to put the bar on, because it will allow for any excess water to drain off. You can also get metal racks, if that suits your style better.

I bought two wooden racks with my shampoo and conditioner bars, and they work great. However, they have now changed to stainless steel racks, which look fabulous.

I also bought some metal tins, because that means I can take my bars on holiday without worrying they break in my luggage.

Conclusion

To conclude my KinKind shampoo bar review I can say that I heartily recommend their bars.

My hair feels soft and looks healthy and shiny and smells great.

The wide range of shampoo bars they offer means that there is a bar for everyone, whether you have curly hair, an itchy scalp or use hair colour.

And the best bit is that you are doing your bit to help the environment and reduce plastic waste.
