And shampoo bars are a great way to do that. On average, they can replace up two plastic bottles, which is great news.
However, this is only the case if you store them in the right way. So in this article, I will show you how to store shampoo bars correctly.
Why Do I Have To Store Solid Bars Differently?
But before we look at how to store shampoo bars, let’s start with the question of why. A shampoo bar is basically the same as a liquid one but in concentrated form.
Unlike the shampoo in a bottle, a solid bar doesn’t consist mainly of water. Did you know that liquid shampoo contains 80% water?
While water is necessary to activate the bar, if stored in wet conditions, it will go mushy and can dissolve quicker. This means it won’t last as long.
So it is important that you know how to store shampoo bars in the right way to ensure you are not wasting your money.
By the way, the same is true for conditioner bars and soap bars. But now let’s get down to the question of how to store shampoo bars by looking at what you need in a storage solution.

There are two enemies your shampoo bar holder has to fight:

- Sunlight/Heat
Excess water or constant moisture will wear down your solid bar, so you need to make sure you store it in a place where it can dry out and keep dry.
Ideally, you want a soap dish with drainage holes. So that any water can drain off and allow the bar to dry. Wooden racks work well too or even metal racks, which also look very stylish.
In terms of materials for your soap saver, wood, metal, stone all work very well. Of course, you can get plastic ones, which might be cheaper, but won’t be any good if you want to cut down on the amount of plastic in your home.
Once dry, you want to ensure your solid bar stays dry. This means you either have to find a place away from water or you could get a soap box, which is covered, so will keep your shampoo bar dry.
Make sure your box has proper drainage though, otherwise your bar will sit in water and go mushy. And only close the lid once your bar is dry, so as not to lock in the moisture, as this would keep your bar wet.
You can also buy soap bags, which you can hang up away from water. But again, you can only put your bar into the bag once it’s dry. So you will still need somewhere for your solid shampoo to dry out.

Where Should I Store My Shampoo Bar?

As we have already learned, water and heat or sun are the enemies of our solid bars.
I would not recommend storing your shampoo bar in the shower, as it might get wet, even when not being used. This will lead to it being used up much quicker.
On a shelf, the sink or the edge of the bath will be much more suitable, as you can keep your bar dry there.
A windowsill will work too, as long as your bars won’t be in the sun, as this will melt them.
A cupboard in the bathroom is also an option, as the shampoo bar would be out of the sun and way from water.
