Ever since I found out that conventional cleaning products have a huge environmental impact, I was determined to get rid of them and replace them with eco-friendly alternatives.

So I went on a quest to find sustainable cleaning products that work. I came across Microbz by accident, but was immediately attracted because they use probiotics. 

While probiotics in cleaning products haven’t been researched a lot, a study looking at the clinical setting has shown that probiotics can be used to keep surfaces clean and safe.

So far so good, but do the Microbz cleaners work? I will tell you in my Microbz probiotic cleaning products review. But first…

Let Me Introduce Microbz

Before I get into my experience with their cleaners though, I want to give you more details about the Microbz. Here at EcoHomeLife we select the products we try out very carefully. 

As our aim is to live a more sustainable life, we want to make sure that anything we use will help us achieve this. And this means we have to scrutinise the company making the products to ensure they are truly eco-friendly businesses.

Microbz is a UK-based firm founded by a husband and wife team. They had a life coach business, but in 2007, the husband went on an exploration trip with a philanthropist who was looking for solutions to our environmental problems. 

Of the many things he saw and learned, microbes and their uses appealed most to him. So the couple decided to change their business to make probiotic products. 

One reason they fell in love with the idea of using microbes was their sustainability. They wanted a business that has as little impact on our environment as possible. So Microbz focuses heavily on the eco-friendly aspect, which I love.

And they are taking it seriously: their packaging is made from consumer recycled plastic and paper/cardboard. And it’s all recyclable again, so no waste.

The labels come off easily during the recycling process. They even use a new printing technology that reduces waste and has a lower impact on the planet than conventional technology. 

In future, they want to be able to recycle the labels themselves, which is what they are working towards.

They only use natural ingredients that won’t harm our environment and of course their probiotics they produce themselves here in the UK.

But they also look at how they run their business. Every part of running their business has our environment at the heart. And that’s why I chose Mirobz.

A Probiotic Cleaner That Works

I won’t go into how probiotic cleaners work here, but if you are unfamiliar with this concept, you can read all about it in my guide about probiotic cleaning.

One thing I love about Mirobz is that they only sell multipurpose cleaners: one surface cleaner for daily use and a power cleaner for tough dirt. You don’t need much more, do you?

I looked at both and decided to try the power cleaner, because I was reasoning that I can use it for everyday cleaning as well as for tough dirt. As there aren’t any nasty, harsh chemicals, it will be safe to use as my multipurpose cleaner every day.

Which Cleaning Task I Use The Cleaner For

I have tried this power cleaner everywhere in my house and I must say it’s a true multipurpose cleaner. Here are the areas I used it for:

• Kitchen: surfaces, sink, taps, induction hob, table, fridge, cabinets, oven
• Bathroom: shower, screen, bath, mirror, sink, tap, toilet, cat litter tray
• Around the house: stains on carpets/upholstery, windows, dusting, hard floors
• Outdoors: garden furniture

As you can see, I use it for pretty much everything in and around our house.

How It performs

One word I would use about the Microbz Power Cleaner‘s performance is: AMAZING. I have tried quite a few eco-friendly cleaners, and I’m not easily impressed, but I’m impressed by this one.

It works great for all the cleaning tasks I can imagine. But there are some outstanding performances I want to mention here.

Despite it not being a dedicated window cleaner, it does a great job. It gets rid of any dirt and, more importantly, leaves my windows streak-free. I hate streaky windows so, this is a huge plus point. It works just as well on mirrors and shower screens. 

We have cats who prefer to throw up on our carpets rather than on hard floors. I think it’s a cat thing, because any friends with cats say the same thing. Of course, this means stains on our carpets.

This probiotic cleaner gets rid of anything my cats throw at it. Even older, dried stains we don’t find immediately come out. I tried several carpet cleaners before and even though they used harsh chemicals, none managed that. All I have to do is spray on the cleaner, wait a few minutes, rub with a cloth, done. 

I love to cook, so every now and again, I get burn stains on my hob. While I do my best to avoid these, it can happen. They are difficult to get rid of and many a cleaner failed.

But this powerful probiotic cleaner does it. I spray it on the hob, leave for around five minutes, then wipe with a cloth, and it’s sparkling clean again. I don’t even have to scrub!

Cleaning our oven was once the most hated job I had. Unless I used super harsh cleaners, it was impossible to get clean. But of course, these cleaners weren’t good for me or the environment. And using these harsh products in the oven, where we cook our food, never sat comfortably with me.

Now, with the Microbz Power Cleaner, it’s no bigger a chore than cleaning the windows. I’ll leave it for 10 minutes before I wipe it. While it does need a bit of scrubbing, it’s not too bad and it keeps my oven clean.

Because I was so impressed with the cleaner, I decided to also try their drain cleaner. We have a septic tank, so we have to be careful what we put down our drains. The good news is, because their products are probiotic, they actually help the microbes that are in the septic tank.

Our drains weren’t blocked, but we noticed a smell in the bathroom. After sniffing around I found it came from the drain in the bath. We have outside pipes and during the hot weather this bad smell developped.

I’m pleased to report that after using the drain cleaner three times, the smell has gone and it hasn’t come back since.

We do use the drain cleaner regularly though to make sure the pipes are clean. Because the product comes as a concentrate, this big bottle lasts quite a while. Well depending on how many drains to clean you have.

I’m so pleased that I can keep the drains clean without any harsh chemicals and knowing that I work with nature, rather than against it.

What I Love About It

Having read my Microbz probiotic cleaning products review, you might have guessed it, I love this probiotic cleaner. And here is why:

It comes as a concentrate, which means the little 250ml bottle goes a long way. In fact, it makes 25 500ml spray bottles, which is just amazing. 

And we know how much better concentrated products are for our environment. They need less packaging and energy to be transported, so have a lower carbon footprint.

Another thing I love about the Microbz Power Cleaner is how powerful it is while only containing natural ingredients and good bacteria. Admittedly, the tougher the stain or dirt, the longer you have to leave it before wiping or rubbing it. 

But that’s a small price to pay for a safe and eco-friendly cleaner. 

The scent, which comes from essential oils, is rather subtle but fresh. I really love this about this cleaner, because I don’t like it when my house smells just of cleaning products. 

Measuring out is so easy, as you can use the screw cap. One cap of the concentrate is all you need for a 500ml bottle. Then fill up with water.

However, the best thing about this cleaner though is that it keeps working while I’m done. Let me explain. The good bacteria in this cleaner are alive. When you spray and wipe a surface, they will stay on this surface even if you have finished cleaning.

This means they will continue to eat any dirt and outcompete the bad bacteria, keeping your surfaces cleaner and hygienic for longer. I have noticed that we have less dust in the house since we use the probiotic cleaner for dusting.

I also feel like the windows stay cleaner for longer. I put this down to the fact that the bacteria continue to eliminate dirt for a while after I have finished cleaning. Now who wouldn’t love that?

Slight Drawbacks

There are many things I love about this probiotic cleaner, but nothing is ever perfect. So let’s talk about the drawbacks.

Actually, I only came across one: once you have made up a spray bottle you have to use it within 2 weeks. Because I use it for pretty much everything, it never lasts longer anyway.

But I can see that it could be a negative if you were to use it less and have to remember when you made it up and then pour away any unused product.

What Other Customers Think

Looking at Microbz’s customer reviews of this product, I’m not alone in my view of how fantastic it is. On Trustpilot, they have a 4.4-star rating from just under 20 reviews. 95% of the customers have given a 4- or 5-star rating.

While the majority of their reviews are for their gut health probiotics, the cleaning products do get a mention.

And everyone seems to like them. The Power Cleaner seems to do a cracking job for others too, which I’m pleased to see. The Surface Cleaner also gets a thumbs up, especially for keeping windows and mirrors streak-free.

What many customers like is the lack of a chemical smell, which many conventional cleaners have. 

5% have given a 1-star review, which is basically one negative review. It’s about the drain cleaner and the customer said it didn’t work, despite using 3 litres of it.

From my experience, it takes time to work. That’s because the probiotics in the cleaner need time to multiply and outcompete the microbes that can cause odour.

All in all, Microbz has many happy customers, including myself.

Costs 

As I have already mentioned, the Microbz Power Cleaner comes as a concentrate, so one bottle gives you 25x 500ml spray bottles. This means that each spray bottle only costs you £0.38, which is outstanding value for money. [Prices correct in July 2024]

You can’t get such an effective cleaner at this price in many places, if at all. So switching to a Microbz cleaner could save you a decent amount of money. Especially, if you do what I do and replace it for a whole range of different cleaners.

But what makes these multipurpose cleaners even better value for money is that they are 100% natural and won’t harm you, your family or our environment. I feel so much better knowing that I don’t use harmful chemicals. And this feeling is priceless.

Verdict Of My Microbz Probiotic Cleaning Products Review

Considering everything I have talked about, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Microbz Power Cleaner. I love it and will continue to use it, that’s for sure.

I’m really impressed by its performance and how easily it cleans off even tough stain, like in my oven or dried-on cat sick on carpets. And all that with only 100% natural ingredients and the help of good bacteria. No nasties in sight anywhere.

But what I love most is that the probiotics in the cleaner will continue to clean when I’m done. This keeps my home cleaner for longer, which is such a plus point.

And you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank, because not only do the Microbz probiotic cleaning products work great, they are also cost-effective. One bottle of concentrated cleaner will go a long way.
