My Eco Living Shampoo Bar Review [UPDATED 2025] – Looking for a solid shampoo that is better for the environment and works for your hair? Our Eco Living shampoo bar review is here to help.
I’m always on the lookout for shampoo bars that work for me and the planet. Ever since I found out that solid shampoos are much better for our environment, I’m determined to find the best shampoo bars in the UK.
Switching to shampoo bars is a way to reduce the amount of plastic we use. But a truly eco-friendly solid shampoo will also contain plant-derived ingredients that are better for us and the planet.
I came across Eco Living by accident and liked their business values. So I wanted to try out their shampoo bar.
In my Eco Living shampoo bar review I will share with you my experience with this eco-friendly solid shampoo.
Why I Chose Eco Living
Here at EcoHomeLife we are very careful which brands we select. Because our aim is to live a more sustainable life and help others do the same, we only choose companies and products that are truly eco-friendly.
For us this means: UK-based businesses who put the environment first. We scrutinise their values and ethos and only if they align with ours do we select them for our reviews. That’s why you will never see an eco-range from a big brand reviewed here.
We are only interested in companies that only produce eco-friendly products. Like Eco Living.
The founder of this UK-based company wanted to move to a more sustainable life. But because she found it hard to find eco-friendly alternatives, she decided to make her own. That’s how Eco Living came about.
But they don’t just make their own eco-friendly products; they also sell sustainable products from other UK-based companies on their website.
At the heart of their business is a desire to reduce the use of plastic. That resonates with me, because I too want to stop using plastic wherever I can.
So you won’t find any plastic packaging with Eco Living. What I love is that they agree with my ethos, that we shouldn’t buy anything that has been made overseas. They only work with UK-based companies or, at the most European ones, but no further afield.
This helps them keep their carbon footprint low. Like their products, they also ensure that their supply chain is eco-friendly. This means they only work with partners that share their passion for the environment.
They don’t use petrochemicals and only include sustainable ingredients in their products. If they have to use palm oil, it’s sustainably sourced. The packaging they use is made from 100% recycled cardboard that can be recycled again.
And that’s why I chose Eco Living.
In-Depth Eco Living Shampoo Bar Review
If you are considering to switch to a shampoo bar, you want to make sure it won’t cause an issue with your hair, right? Well, that’s why I’m writing this review. By sharing my experience you can make an informed decision.
To make it easier for you, I will look at various aspects, such as results and value for money, that will help you decide if it’s the shampoo bar for you.
Convenience
But I want to start my Eco Living shampoo bar review with the question of convenicne. How easy is it to get your hands on their shampoo bars?
The good news is that you can get your Eco Living shampoo bar from one of my favourite online eco-stores re:gn. I have used them many times, and like them a lot.
You can order the shampoo bar as a one-off or as part of a subscription. Using the subscription service makes it very convenient to buy this solid shampoo indeed.
All you have to do is choose the frequency, and you can forget about it. You get your shampoo bars automatically when you need them and you save money. What’s not to like?
Your Eco Living shampoo bar will arrive in no time in a cardboard box with no plastic in sight, just as it should be.
They also offer a smaller and cheaper sample size, so you can try it out first. That’s great, especially if you are unsure if it will work with your hair.
Results
But let’s move on to one of the most important questions my Eco Living shampoo bar review needs to answer: are these solid bars any good?
I have to admit, I was a big sceptical because they don’t have different bars for different hair types. As I have very thick long hair, I know how important the right ingredients are.
However, when I checked the ingredient list I saw that the shampoo bar contains Panthenol Pro-Vitamin B5, which is a naturally occurring ingredient that moisturises skin and hair. Some research has even shown that it can help against hair loss.
The bars also contain fruit oils to make the hair silky and shiny. I decided to give it a go.
Because it’s a pH-balanced bar, which means it isn’t a soap, there is no transition period. It contains the naturally derived surfactant Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate. This is better than SLS that is used in most commonly used bottled shampoos.
It’s also not a sulphate, which means it is kinder to your skin and hair and won’t dry them out. Very important for my hair.
So what did I think of the solid shampoo? I was pleasantly surprised. It lathered up very well and cleaned my hair as it should. But of course, the big test was how manageable my hair would be and how it feels once it’s dry.
The biggest plus point was that I didn’t need to use a conditioner. With most liquid shampoos I needed one, because otherwise I couldn’t brush my hair after washing them.
And once my hair was dry (it’s a task and a half with my thick hair!), it was soft and shiny. I was really impressed, given that it’s a shampoo bar for all hair types.
But what about the smell? I don’t know about you, but I love it when my hair smells nice. I tried two different scents: autumn berries and wild fig.
Both smelled really nice when I took the Eco Living shampoo bar out of the box. And I was excited to find that the lovely scents transferred onto my hair and lasted for about a day or two. While both scents are nice, my absolute favourite is autumn berries.
It’s sweet but not too sweet and fresh at the same time. It’s also not overpowering or has a chemical whiff about it. Just right!
Ease Of Use
The next factor I want to cover in my Eco Living shampoo bar review is ease of use. How easy is it to use these solid bars?
Well, pretty easy. There are two ways to use them. You can wet the bar, rub it in your hands to get a good lather, then rub the lather into your hair. Massage it in, rinse and done.
Or, if you have long and/or thick hair like I do, then you can rub the wet shampoo bar directly into your hair. This works much better for me, because it is quicker to get the lather all over my hair.
The shampoo bar is in the shape of a leaf, which doesn’t just look beautiful. It also fits perfectly into my hand, despite it being a bigger bar than many other brands.
That’s an advantage, because I’m less likely to drop it if it isn’t too big for my small hands.
We live in a very hard water area, and I was very pleased that the shampoo bar worked perfectly. It lathered up well, despite our hard water. That’s always a bonus for me.
The only tricky thing is how to keep it dry between washes. But that’s not unique to the Eco Living shampoo bar but is true for all solid shampoos.
I have a wooden rack on which I store my shampoo bar on the edge of the bath. This way it can dry out and will last longer. Storing a solid shampoo correctly is important if you want it to last as long as possible.
Range Of Products
When you find a brand that is aligned to your own values, and you like one of their products, you want to know if they have more. That’s why I also look at product range in my Eco Living shampoo bar review.
Apart from shampoo bars, Eco Living also makes soaps with essential oils and butters. And a wide range of other eco-friendly products such as bath salts, citric acid, baking soda, natural brushes and more.
However, no other hair care products. And as I have already said, they have one shampoo bar for all hair types, but with different scents. As I have discovered, this isn’t actually an issue, at least not for my long tick hair.
But I know that many people want to have a shampoo bar that is designed for their hair type. What I would say is, give it a go. You might find it works great for your hair.
Quality
For me, buying products that are good quality is important. That means that their ingredients are good for me and the environment.
Eco Living only uses naturally derived, sustainable ingredients, which means no petrochemicals. All of their shampoo bars are made in the UK, which is great.
They don’t use nasty ingredients such as SLS, palm oil, parabens or GMO ingredients in their bars. And the bars are cruelty-free and vegan, very important.
This eco-friendly brand takes quality very seriously, because they know that only good quality products are bought by consumers. And you can feel it when you brush your fingers through your hair after you washed and dried them with one of their shampoo bars.
Value For Money

We now come to another vital factor I just had to cover in my Eco Living shampoo bar review: value for money. Especially when money is tight, you want to know that you are not being ripped off, right?
As far as shampoo bars go, the Eco Living solid shampoo is similarly priced to others. The 85g will last up to 80 washes, depending on how thick and long your hair is.
For me, with my long thick hair, it lasts almost three times as long as a 250ml bottle of shampoo, which is pretty good. These shampoo bars aren’t the cheapest, but also not the most expensive ones.
And compared to liquid shampoo? Well, that’s more difficult to say, because it’s not that easy to compare a liquid that consists mostly of water, with a concentrated bar.
What can be said is that an Eco Living shampoo bar is cheaper than the most common expensive brands.
But consider what you get: zero-waste haircare with high-quality, naturally derived ingredients that are good for you and the planet. That sounds like great value for money to me.
Customer Reviews
In my Eco Living shampoo bar review I share my personal experience with this product with you. But we all know at all our hair is different. That’s why I’m also looking at what other customers with different hair types think.
Eco Living aren’t on Trustpilot, but that isn’t a bad thing. After all, companies have to pay to appear on this review site. And especially smaller businesses might not have the budget for this.
Looking at their reviews of the shampoo bars on their own website, the solid shampoo has a 5-star rating from their customers from just over 20 reviews. 91% of their customers who tried their shampoo bars gave it a 5-star rating.
There weren’t any negative reviews, which is a bit odd. But as these are reviews on their own websites, it’s worth knowing that they can choose not to publish negative ones.
I prefer to look at independent review sites, as on these any review good or bad will appear. But if I can’t find any on such sites, I have to rely on the reviews on the companies website.
What I was most interested in was to see if it also worked for people with a different hair type to me.
I found reviews from people with fine hair, sensitive scalp and a mix of fine and thick hair. They all said the shampoo bars worked great for them.
So this confirms it, it does work for different hair types.
Lovely shampoo bar. I have fine, thin, flyaway hair that usually feels lank and sticky after using other shampoo bars, but NOT with these. I purchased the fig one because it had rave reviews and also the ocean one as I like the sea.
5-Star Review on Eco Living Website
Another reason for loving these is that they do not contain palm products.
Conclusion
So what’s the verdict of my Eco Living shampoo bar review? I was sceptical at first, but I can now warmly recommend these shampoo bars to anyone who wants to have a more eco-friendly beauty routine.
Without any nasty or toxic petrochemicals, the Eco Living shampoo bars are better for you and the environment. They use high-quality ingredients to give you clean, soft and healthy hair. You can get rid of plastic bottles without compromising on results.
The solid shampoo lathers up very well, even in our very hard water. The same shampoo bar is for all hair types, although you have the choice between some lovely scents, such as wild fig.
Despite having long thick hair, Eco Living’s shampoo bar left my hair easy to brush, soft and shiny. This means that I don’t need to use a conditioner, which is rather rare.
Because it’s a solid shampoo it lasts longer than a liquid one. The 85g bars last for up to 80 washes, depending on how often you wash your hair and how much you use. You won’t have to break the bank to switch to this shampoo bar, because they are great value for money.
If you are looking to swap to a more eco-friendly way to wash your hair, then the Eco Living shampoo bar is the perfect fit. Why not try it out now?
