Foamie Shampoo Bar Review [UPDATED 2025] – I wanted to switch to shampoo bars to reduce the plastic waste I produce. I discovered Foamie and want to share my experience with you.
One way to live a more sustainable life is to reduce the amount of plastic we use. But given how many things seem to come packaged in plastic, it can be daunting.
So I decided to start with a simple swap. Getting rid of liquid shampoo and switch to a shampoo bar is easy and effective.
In my Foamie shampoo bar review I will share with you how I got on with this solid bar.
Why I Chose Foamie?
Foamie is a German company, but they make all their products, including their shampoo bars, in the UK.
They have made it their mission to re-invent personal care products that don’t just work, but are also environmentally friendly.
All their products are completely plastic-free, including the packaging. And the string their shampoo bars and soaps can be hung up with is 100% cotton.
Foamie doesn’t use any nasty chemicals that are bad for you or the environment. That means their products are free from sulphates, parabens, SLS and other baddies.
So not only do get rid of plastic bottles in your bathroom, you can also be sure that no harmful chemicals reach the environment when you wash your hair.

Switching to a new shampoo can be daunting, because you don’t want to compromise on the results you get.
To make this Foamie shampoo bar review as useful as possible for you, I will look at different criteria.

Convenience
First, let’s look at how convenient it is to buy a Foamie shampoo bar. I firmly believe that people won’t swap unless it’s made easy for them.

The order process is very simple, and you can even subscribe. Not only do you save 5% by doing so, you don’t need to worry about running out either.
Just put in how often you want to receive your shampoo bar – every 1, 2 or 3 months – and you can forget all about it.
This makes buying the Foamie solid shampoo even more convenient than buying it with your weekly shop.
You can pay via credit/debit card or PayPal. Orders are sent out via Royal Mail and you have the option of standard, express or next day delivery.
That’s great because it means that if you are in a hurry, you can get your shampoo bar quickly, even if it means paying a bit more on postage.
My order was dispatched promptly and arrived within two days, I did pay for express delivery though.
It came in a paper envelope, which I could recycle, so no waste. Even the branded tape that sealed the envelope securely was made of paper, which I loved.
The solid bar itself was packaged in a cardboard box, which is also recyclable. So no waste at all.
Results
The next criteria I’m looking at in my Foamie shampoo bar review is results. Because I know that you won’t swap to a solid shampoo unless you get the same or even better results than from your liquid one.
I have thick and long hair, which means it tends to be dry. So I was a bit worried about swapping to a shampoo bar, in case it would damage my hair.
But I gave it a go and purchased the Foamie shampoo bar – aloe vera for dry hair.
It had a lovely fresh aloe vera scent when I took it out of the box, which I can’t get enough of. But I had to wait to see if my hair will smell as nice once I washed it with the bar.
The shampoo bar lathered up very well, giving a soft luxurious foam. And the smell was still delicious.
Because it’s a soap-free shampoo, I had no problem with my hard water and there was no transition period, which is brilliant.
Despite this, it doesn’t contain any sulphates, which is great for my hair. Instead, it uses natural, milder surfactants, which are better for my hair and the planet.
I normally use a conditioner with my thick, long hair, but I thought I try it without, even though Foamie does also sell conditioner bars.
And I can report, that my hair was easy to comb and once it was dry it felt soft and looked shiny. I was really impressed with the results.
I love that I don’t need a conditioner with the Foamie shampoo bar, because it means I save money, and it’s good for the environment too.
While the scent wasn’t as strong as when I washed my hair, it still smelled lightly fresh. So much so that I couldn’t resist smelling my hair every now and then. Yes, I’m that kind of person.
All in all, I was really impressed with the performance of the Foamie shampoo bar.
Range Of Products

If you are intending to travel with your Foamie shampoo bar, you might want to consider investing in their travel box, as the bar has an unusual shape, which means it won’t fit most round shampoo bar tins.
I would say that Foamie‘s product range is great, giving you a lot of choice.
Quality
We all want to use personal care products that use high quality ingredients. After all, we are talking about our hair and skin here. So I wanted to include a section about this in my Foamie shampoo bar review.
What I love about the Foamie products is that they have been developed by a team of scientists here in the UK. This means you can be sure that the ingredients they use will work and are of good quality.
At the same time, they only use natural ingredients that won’t harm you or the environment. No nasty chemicals here!

Value For Money
Of course, you want value for money. That’s why I’m looking at this very carefully in my Foamie shampoo bar review.
So let’s have a look how these solid bars compare. We have already seen that they are made with quality ingredients and developed by scientists.
The results you get are great and, in my opinion, better than with liquid shampoos, because I don’t need a conditioner, which never happened when I used bottled shampoos.
Compared to other similar shampoo bars, Foamie bars are priced competitively. But you probably want to know how they compare to liquid shampoos.
Well, it’s not that easy to say. At first glance they will look more expensive. However, you have to remember that these bars last longer than a shampoo bottle.
In my experience, a 50g solid bar lasts about twice as long as an average plastic bottle. However, the Foamie shampoo bars are bigger with 80g.
For me, their bar lasted more than twice as long as a bottle. This means that it’s no more expensive than most liquid shampoos.
Given the great results I got and that I didn’t need a conditioner, I actually save money by swapping to a Faomie shampoo bar.
And on top of all of that, you also get rid of some plastic in your bathroom. Now that’s what I call value for money.
