EarthKind Shampoo Bar Review [UPDATED 2023] – During research into swapping my bottled shampoo for a solid bar, I came across EarthKind. I gave one of their shampoo bars a go and in this EarthKind Shampoo Bar review I share my experience with you.

I’m trying to reduce plastic waste in my life and one easy way to do this is by swapping things I use frequently with a non-plastic alternative.

I started with my shampoo, because the swap is easy and convenient. Shampoo bars are ready available and are a great way to get rid of plastic in my bathroom.

In this EarthKind shampoo bar review I will share my experience with this brand with you.

Why I Chose EarthKind

EarthKind understands that we only have one earth

Because I’m trying to reduce my impact on the planet, I choose the brands I try very carefully.

I liked the look of EarthKind because they are a UK-based company who understand that we only have one earth. That’s why they don’t use plastic in their products or packaging and only use sustainable and ethically sourced natural materials.

That alone would have been reason enough to try them. But EarthKind was founded by a Trichologist, that’s a hair specialist I learned, and a cosmetic scientist.

So they definitely know all about hair. The combination of in depth knowledge and the desire to make hair care products that won’t harm the planet really excites me.

It also means that I had very high hopes for their shampoo bar. Read on to find out if they disappointed me.

In Depth EarthKind Shampoo Bar Review

I want this EarthKind shampoo bar review to be as useful to you as possible. That’s why I will look at carefully selected criteria, including range of products, results and value of money.

My main focus is on the question of is the shampoo bar as good or better than a liquid one.

I strongly believe that people will only swap to a more eco-friendly alternative if they don’t have to compromise.

Convenience

using the EarthKind website is simple

The first factor I look at in my review is how convenient it is to get an EarthKind shampoo bar.

You can get most liquid shampoo brands in the supermarket when you do your weekly shop. While those smaller brands are not yet available in supermarkets, you can order your EarthKind shampoo bar on their website.

Their website is easy to navigate, and you find quickly what you want.

The order process is simple, and you have several payment options to choose from. You can pay with a debit/credit card, PayPal, GooglePay, Apple Pay or ShopPay.

You can also get a subscription, where you get your chosen shampoo bar at your chosen interval. And you can change or cancel at any time.

That makes getting your EarthKind shampoo bar even more convenient.

My EarthKind shampoo bar arrived in a recyclable cardboard envelope

My order came via Royal Mail and arrived in good time. It was packaged in a recyclable cardboard envelope that fitted through our letterbox.

The bar itself was packaged in a cardboard box that can be recycled. So no plastic in sight, how wonderful!

Results

Whether we buy a liquid or a solid shampoo, we want great results, right?

That’s why this is a very important section in my EarthKind shampoo bar review, because if we don’t get the results, we won’t swap.

I tried EarthKind’s Bergamot and Sage shampoo bar for dry and coloured hair, as I have dry hair. I admit that I wasn’t too sure about the smell. Bergamot and sage wouldn’t be my first choice.

But actually, I quite like the smell. It’s a fresh scent that isn’t too strong and has a luxurious note to it. I guess that’s because bergamot is used in perfumes, so it reminds me of that.

Even though the shampoo bar is sulphate-free, it does still contain cleaning agents, that’s why it gives a very nice lather.

That also means that it’s not a soap-based bar, which is good news, because we live in a hard water area. Soap-based bars don’t work well with our hard water.

If you also live in a hard water area, read our article about shampoo bars for hard water to find out all you need to know about this topic.

And it also means that there is no transition period. Yay!

I have very thick, long hair, so a sulphate-free shampoo is best for me as my hair tends to be dry. My thick hair is also the reason that I rub the bar directly on my hair rather than in my hands. I found that works better for me.

After the wash, my hair felt clean and still had a light fresh scent, which I was delighted with.

I normally use a conditioner. But because the cleansing agent used in this solid bar is milder than what’s used in liquid ones, I tried it without.

My hair was easy to brush, which is great. And once I had dried it, it was super soft and looked shiny. But what amazed me even more, was that my hair was much less frizzy than with other shampoo bars I tried.

I checked the ingredients and the EarthKind Bergamot and Sage shampoo bar contains coconut and avocado oil.

Basically, I got hair that felt and looked like I used a conditioner without using one. Brilliant! The light scent lingered for a day afterwards, which I was quite pleased about.

All in all, I am really pleased with the results I got from the EarthKind shampoo bar.

Range Of Products

EarthKind range of products

We are so used to a brand offering a good range of products, that I wanted to include this section in my EarthKind shampoo bar review.

Apart from the Bergamot & Sage bar I tried, EarthKind also has a bar for people with a sensitive scalp, which contains tea tree and eucalyptus.

If you have oily hair, their Citrus Leaf shampoo bar will freshen up your hair. Unfortunately, this is all they have. I was a bit disappointed that their range was rather small.

However, they do also sell a conditioner bar which is suitable for all hair types. If you need one, given how good my results were without one.

And they also sell something called an Elasticity Bar, which is a pre-wash conditioning treatment. It’s for all hair types and gives your hair strength and elasticity.

So if you have brittle or damaged hair this pre-was conditioning bar will sort them out. It’s the first time I have seen such a fancy hair treatment as a solid bar.

Even though their range is not the biggest, they have products that will suit many hair types. All their products also work for African and Asian hair, which is great news.

Quality

EarthKind shampoo bar

I wanted to include a section about quality in my EarthKind shampoo bar review, because for me, it’s important that the products I use are of good quality.

When I did my research into this shampoo bar, I quickly realised that they only use natural ingredients, such as oils. EarthKind’s cosmetic science knowledge also shows, because they use a natural conditioner that is made from sugar.

It’s used in skin creams normally, but they put it into their shampoo bars. That’s probably why I got such fantastic results.

All their ingredients are also sustainably sourced, vegan, cruelty-free and plastic-free. And they make all their shampoo bars in the UK.

So there aren’t any nasties in there that would be bad for you or the planet. This is the kind of high quality I like.

Value For Money

value for money

Whether you are on a budget or not, you don’t want to pay more than necessary. And you’re not going to swap to an alternative, if it leaves you with a whole in your purse.

That’s why I am looking at value for money in my EarthKind shampoo bar review.

Keeping in mind that a shampoo bar is a concentrated version of a liquid one, which means they last longer, these shampoo bars are excellent value for money.

You don’t pay more than for most branded bottled shampoos.

Given the high quality and the superb results you get, you are actually getting real good value for money with an EarthKind shampoo bar. And if you opt for a subscription, where you get a shampoo bar sent automatically, you can save 25%.

Add to all this that you are getting rid of plastic in your bathroom and life and I would say it’s great value for money.

Customer Reviews

When we decide to try out a new product, many of us look to reviews to find out if it’s any good.

That’s why I have decided to write my EarthKind shampoo bar review, to share my experiences with you.

But I also wanted to include a section about what other customers thought. After all, you are much more confident in a product that has many happy customers, right?

The resounding majority of customers are happy with their products, with a 4.6 out of 5 stars on feefo for products, with 100 reviews in the past year.

For customer service their rating is 4.8 out of 5 stars with over hundred customers in the last 12 months.

The few negative comments mostly refer to problems with deliveries. But not enough to worry.

So all in all, EarthKind customers are very happy with their shampoo bars.

I’m a total convert. The shampoo bar is just the same as bottled stuff but lasts longer and without the plastic. And it’s not filled with SLS and random decorative bits to scratch your hair like the Lush ones. The conditioner bar is much more buttery than others I’ve used so it’s easier to get more product into my hair. Leaves it feeling noticeably softer and the bar lasts ages too. I’d recommend!

5-Star Rating on feefo

I ordered the pack of 3 sage and bergamot shampoo bars. They leave my hair feeling soft and looking shiny. The delivery was quick and the items were a good price too.

Love the shampoo and conditioner bars. Easy to transport on holidays and make my hair feel really soft and manageable

How Long Does An EarthKind Shampoo Bar Last?

If you are looking to swap your shampoo bottles for a solid bar, you are probably wondering how long such a bar lasts. So I thought I would include a bit of information about this in my EarthKind shampoo bar review.

Frist, I have to say that there is no concrete answer to this question. Because it depends on how often you wash your hair and how much you use.

The latter will depend on how thick and long your hair is. But the same is true for a liquid shampoo. So generally you can say that a shampoo bar lasts twice as long as an average bottle of shampoo.

And it’s the same with the EarthKind shampoo bar.

Of course, shampoo bars, like bottles, come in different sizes. So to estimate how long a bar lasts, you have to compare it to the right size bottle. I have tried quite a few shampoo bars now, and I can say that a 50g bar, which is the size of the EarthKind bar, last twice as long as a 350ml bottle.

Hopefully, this will help you find out how long an EarthKind shampoo bar will last for you.

How To Store Your EarthKind Shampoo Bar?

If you are new to the concept of shampoo bars, you probably wonder how to store them. And it is a good question, because a correctly stored shampoo bar will last longer.

Unlike liquid shampoo, which is protected by a plastic bottle, a solid bar needs extra care to keep in pristine condition. This means you have to store it in a cool, dry place, where it gets a chance to dry out after you have used it.

I would not recommend storing it in the shower, as it will get wet every time you use the shower, even if you don’t wash your hair. Instead, get a storage rack or tin and place it away from any water.

EarthKind sells a storage tin, which contains a small pierced platform, which allows excess water to drain away. This way your solid shampoo will dry out quicker.

The tin also doubles up as travel storage, which is very handy indeed.

Conclusion

As I come to the end of my EarthKind shampoo bar review, I am very pleased to say that I can happily recommend their solid shampoos.

Not only do you get rid of plastic in your bathroom, you also get a shampoo bar that has been developed by a cosmetic scientist.

In my view, this is reflected in the results you will see after using it. My hair was clean, soft and shiny. Even though I didn’t use a conditioner, my hair was easily manageable and less frizzy.

And all this without costing the earth (both in terms of money and the planet).

So if you are looking for a shampoo bar that gives you the results without breaking the bank, an EarthKind shampoo bar is the right choice.
