People are much more aware now of the impact they have on our environment. As a result, many are looking to make changes to live a more sustainable life.

I am one of those people. Recently I have done a lot of research into cleaning products and their effects on our environment. And I quickly realised that traditional cleaning products are bad for our planet.

So I started looking into eco-friendly cleaning. In my nookary review I will share my experience with their probiotic cleaners with you.

Why I Chose Nookary

I came across this UK-based business by accident, and I am glad I did. Nookary came to be from a desire to give people an easy way to clean their home in an eco-friendly way.

What intrigued me was that they were using probiotics to create their products. I knew about probiotics in terms of gut health, but probiotic cleaning was a new one to me.

When they developed their probiotic cleaners, nookary put the planet and humans at the heart of what they did, while also creating cleaners that are effective.

All their cleaning bottles are reusable glass bottles, which, by the way, also look very stylish. Once you have a bottle, you can buy refills, which come in concentrated form.

One thing I particularly love about nookary is that they take back their refill pouches, for free, so they can refill them. There is no waste at all.

All their packaging is also plastic-free and recyclable. Some have even been made from recycled materials, so that they only have a minimal impact on our planet.

So you get a natural cleaner that uses the power of good bacteria, which will cause no harm to you or the environment. And on top of that, you get rid of a good deal of plastic in the cupboard under your sink.

Swapping to eco-friendly products can be a daunting prospect, after all you want to make the right decision. And there are so many things to consider.

That’s why I’m trying to make my nookary review as useful as possible by looking at different aspects, such as effectiveness, value for money and ease of use.

Convenience

I will start my nookary review by looking at how convenient it is to buy these eco-friendly cleaners. Like most people, I used to buy my household cleaners with my weekly shop.

This is not possible with nookary cleaners. However, you can order them directly from their website, which is easy to navigate, so you easily find what you need.

You can pay by credit/debit card, PayPal, shopPay and GooglePay, so you are spoiled for choice. While all this is very convenient, it gets better. You can subscribe to their subscription service. This means they will send you your chosen cleaners automatically when you need them. 

You can choose to get them delivered every one, two or three weeks. And then just forget about it. To top it all up, you save 10% if you subscribe.

Orders are sent out with Royal Mail. You get an email when your cleaners have left nookary‘s warehouse in Surrey with a tracking number. So you know exactly when they will arrive.

It doesn’t get any more convenient than that.

My order arrived within a few days of ordering and was packaged very well. No plastic in sight. The reusable bottle was protected with a paper mesh, which is recyclable.

Even the tape was made from paper, which was great to see. Eco-friendly to the last little bit.

Product Range

The next factor I will look at in my nookary review is the range of products. When we walk down the cleaning product isle of a supermarket, we see a variety of different types of cleaners.

With other products, such as shampoo bars, I would say the bigger the choice the better, because we don’t all have the same hair type.

But when it comes to cleaning products, my research has taught me that it’s not necessary to have such a variety.  I am pleased to say that nookary’s product range is small but perfectly adequate. 

Probiotic All-Purpose Cleaner

I have never used an all-purpose cleaner, because I believed, like many of us thanks to the advertising industry, that you need a different cleaner for different tasks.

So I had a kitchen cleaner, window cleaner, bathroom cleaner, furniture polisher, floor cleaner, etc. But from an environmental as well as a health point of view, an all-purpose cleaner makes sense.

Rather than a wide range of different cleaners with different harmful chemicals, you only have one. And if this one is free of any toxic chemicals, even better.

The nookary probiotic all-purpose cleaner will replace so many other cleaners in your cupboard under the sink. You can clean your kitchen tops, sinks, taps, oven, windows, mirrors, shower screens, floors, use it to dust and probably much more I have not thought of.

Probiotic Upholstery And Carpet Cleaner

Having a cat, a carpet cleaner is essential, because cats have this thing where they only throw up on carpets. My cat even leaves the kitchen, with hard floor, to come into the living room, with carpet, to do the deed.

I swear she does it on purpose. You can almost see her holding it in until she reached a room with a carpet.

With any pet, or child for that matter, an effective carpet and upholstery cleaner is an absolute essential. But you also want one that is safe for your pet or child, right? So I was very happy to see that nookary offers a probiotic one, because it means I don’t need to worry about any toxic chemicals my cat might come in contact with.

Unlike other carpet cleaners, this one also doubles up as a fabric freshener. So you can use it to spray your sofas, chairs, cat or dog bed and carpets to give them a little lift.

The beneficial bacteria will get rid of any odours for you to keep your house fresh.

Probiotic Air Freshener

Did you know that air fresheners are one of the most toxic cleaning products? They consist mostly of synthetic fragrances, which can cause all sorts of harm to you, your family and the environment.

I personally don’t use air freshener as I prefer to open the window to get rid of bad smells. But I can see how useful an air freshener can be.

I know my dog-loving friends say they couldn’t live without one, given their pooch can be smelly. Or maybe you just like to have a fresh smelling house; nothing wrong with that. 

But it is important that you use a product that doesn’t just release a range of toxic chemicals. So using the nookary probiotic air freshener is the perfect solution for your family and the planet.

One thing I love about all three products is that they come in different fragrances, which come from essential oils rather than synthetic perfumes. This means you can find the fragrance that suits you or mix it up. Beautifully bare doesn’t have any essential oils, so if you don’t want a fragrance at all, you are well catered for.

As you can see, while the nookary range seems small at first, you will be able to replace a cartload full of chemical household cleaners in plastic bottles.

There is only one thing I would like to see added to nookary’s product range and that’s a probiotic washing-up liquid. 

Effectiveness

We now come to a very important section in my nookary review: effectiveness. Unless the products work, you won’t buy them, even if they are better for the environment.

Let’s have a look at how nookary’s probiotic cleaners compare.

Probiotic All-Purpose Cleaner

I love the idea of an all-purpose cleaner, because it makes things easier, is better for the environment and cheaper. But I was a bit sceptical at first.

But once I got going, I had no more doubts. Nookary’s all-purpose cleaner worked great in my oven, on my hob, the kitchen worktops, and in the bathroom too.

The mirror and shower screen are now sparkling and there are no streaks. And this all-purpose cleaner works better on my windows than the window cleaner I used before. My husband was really impressed.

I also used it to clean my cat’s litter tray. I was never happy using harsh chemicals, and now I don’t need to worry any more. And the litter tray is as clean as ever.

The nookary all-purpose cleaner also worked great on my floors. You can dilute it up to 40 times the everyday ratio (50ml:450ml) for your floors, so you don’t need much at all.

But the biggest test came when we did some work on our wooden kitchen worktop. We had to sand it to remove any stains, and then rub in oil to make it water-repellent and protect it. As you can imagine, this caused a lot of dirt, especially in our lovely white Belfast sink.

The sawdust was bad enough, but we also had to let the oil cure for days, which meant we couldn’t clean the sink. As a result, it got really dirty. Nookary all-purpose cleaner to the rescue! I have to admit, I wasn’t too sure if it could cope. But I was pleasantly surprised.

The difference before and after was huge and this little probiotic cleaner did a cracking job. And we didn’t even have to scrub loads. Truly, this is an outstanding performance.

I chose English Garden as scent, and it smells lovely. Lightly sweet as if you are walking through a garden full of flowers in bloom. But it’s not overpowering, just an agreeable light scent.

I am really impressed with nookary‘s all-purpose cleaner.

Probiotic Upholstery And Carpet Cleaner

I bought the carpet and upholstery cleaner mainly to get rid of cat sick stains. And cat sick is no problem at all for this carpet cleaner, I am very pleased to report.

I diluted the cleaner at the ratio of 50:450ml (that is 50ml of the cleaner and 450ml of water), which according to the instructions is for everyday fresh ups.

But it does get rid of stains, as long as you use the nookary carpet cleaner as soon as the spill happens.

I even tried it on old cat sick stains that my old carpet cleaner couldn’t shift and spots left from the previous owners of the house.

And while it made the stains less pronounced, it didn’t get rid of them completely. So I decided to dilute it less and try again, as the instructions do say for spot cleaning use less water.

The result: as good as gone. If you look at them at a certain angle you can still see the stains, but that’s okay, after all, they were old ones.

However, the first stain I had to get rid of with my new nookary carpet cleaner was blood. And I was very pleased that it had no problems with that stain at all.

I sprayed the product on the stain, left it for five minutes, then rubbed it with a cloth and the blood stain was no more. I was really impressed.

As fragrance, I chose beautifully bare, because I didn’t think my carpets needed to smell of flowers. It doesn’t contain any essential oils, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t smell at all.

It has a very slight soapy smell, which is actually quite nice. It doesn’t hang around though.

I absolutely love my nookary carpet cleaner. It gets rid of any stains and I know that it won’t harm my family (including the cat) or the environment.

Probiotic Air Freshener

Unlike other air fresheners that work mainly by masking any odours with a strong synthetic scent, the nookary air freshener uses good bacteria that will get rid of the source of the smell.

This means you don’t have to keep spraying to cover up any bad odours. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

The added essential oils will give your home a lovely smell, without causing any harm to anyone. 

You can choose from Sicilian lemon, English garden and beautifully bare. The latter, like in the other products, doesn’t contain essential oils.

So if you just want to get rid of odours without adding a scent, it’s the air freshener for you.

While I don’t use air fresheners, nookary‘s customers who do love the product. They agree that it gets rid of any smells leaving behind a subtle lovely fragrance, depending on which one they have chosen.

And all that without it being toxic, fabulous.

Easy To Use

Whenever we think about swapping to a new product or an eco-friendly alternative, we wonder if it will be easy to use. That’s why I wanted to include a section about this in my nookary review.

One thing about traditional cleaning products that use harsh chemicals is that they make cleaning quicker and easier. You spray, wipe and it’s clean. We want the same from any environmentally friendly cleaner, right?

I’m very pleased to say that the nookary cleaners make cleaning very quick and easy, despite not containing any harsh chemicals.

Because you get the probiotic cleaners concentrated, you can always use them less diluted if you have tougher stains.

But what I love most about using probiotics for cleaning is that the good bacteria continue cleaning when I have finished. 

As long as they have food, which means dirt and grease, they will continue to eat and with that clean. That way, your home stays cleaner for longer than if you clean with chemical cleaners.

One thing you should know though is that once the concentrated cleaner is diluted, it needs to be used within 3 weeks for best results.

That’s because nookary uses the minimum amount of preservatives and solubilizers they can get away with. These substances are necessary to make the product safe and effective.

But once diluted, nookary products are 99% natural. The small amount of synthetic chemicals they use means they are not harmful at all. However, they are necessary.

You can still use the products after 3 weeks, but they start to use their effectiveness.

With the all-purpose cleaner that is not a problem at all, as I am using it for pretty much everything. With the carpet cleaner, I just make up less. Problem solved!

Value For Money

Another important factor when we consider swapping to an eco-friendly alternative is value for money. So in my nookary review I will have a close look at this.

Let’s talk money then. Compared to most branded chemical cleaners you can buy in the supermarket, nookary products are either the same price or cheaper. Own supermarket brands might cost less though.

However, what you get for your money with nookary is so much more than with any traditional cleaner.

First of all, you get a product that works without using harsh chemicals which could harm you, your family and the environment.

It’s also a zero-waste product, because the glass spray bottle is reusable. The refill pouches can be sent back for free so that nookary can clean and reuse them.

And the best of all, at least for me, you get a cleaner that will continue to clean when you have finished. That’s brilliant, because it means that your home stays clean for longer.

Now for me that’s great value for money.
