Nuddy Is No Longer Trading
Unfortunately, nuddy shampoo bars are no longer available, due to the business ceasing to trade. If you are looking for a shampoo bar, here you can find our other recommended solid shampoos.
Nuddy Shampoo Bar Review – Climate change and its impact on the plant and our lives has been in the news a lot lately. And if you want to do your bit by swapping your liquid shampoo for solid one, then my nuddy shampoo bar review will be useful.
Like many other people, I am trying to reduce my plastic waste, and one thing I want to do is to swap products I use every day for zero-plastic versions.
I decided to start with shampoo and started to research various brands who sell solid shampoo bars.
In my nuddy shampoo bar review, I will share the results of my research with you.
Sustainability
Because my main aim is to reduce my carbon footprint by trying to live a more sustainable life, I want to make sure the companies I buy from do business in an environmentally friendly way.
That’s why I start my nuddy shampoo bar review by looking at the company’s ethos and attitudes in terms of sustainability.

Nuddy is a UK business, led by a team of women who wanted to do things differently. Combining luxury with sustainability they created a brand that gives customers a high-end product that does not impact on the planet.
On their website they say that over 80% of their ingredients are natural and all their products are vegan.
While I couldn’t find any details about the packaging they use, it looks like they don’t use any plastic. The shampoo bars come in a cardboard box, which can be recycled.
They also donate 15% of their profits to various charities. Unfortunately, they don’t mention which ones they are.
So although they talk a lot about sustainability, they are scarce on the details and seem to be more focused on being a luxury brand.
But, they still offer plastic-free solid shampoos that will allow you to reduce the amount of plastic in your bathroom.

In Depth Nuddy Shampoo Bar Review
To make sure that you find this nuddy shampoo bar review useful, I have looked at different aspects, including convenience, range of products, quality, results and value for money.
Convenience
Swapping to a plastic-free product should not mean compromising on convenience. We all live busy lives and don’t want to waste time and effort on simple things.
Ordering via their website is simple and quick, and you have different payment options. You can pay by card (Visa or Mastercard), Apply Pay, Google Pay and PayPal. They even offer payment in interest-free installments through Clearpay.
Unlike other brands, nuddy doesn’t offer a subscription service. This is a shame, as often you can save money and you don’t need to worry about running out.
Apart from that, ordering from them is easy and convenient.
Results

The next aspect I am looking at in my nuddy shampoo bar review is the results you get. Because swapping from a liquid shampoo to a solid shampoo bar should not mean compromising on results.
Nuddy sells solid bars that are both for your hair and skin, so are hair/body bars.
The majority of nuddy customers agree that they get the same results, if not better, than with their bottled shampoo.
The bars lather up very well and the smell does also convince most customers. The majority of reviews also said that their hair and skin felt soft and looked healthy after using the nuddy bars.
Range Of Products
With many brands selling plastic bottles you have a wide range of different products that suit various hair types.
When you swap to a solid bar, you don’t want to lose this choice. That’s why I am including this section in my nuddy shampoo bar review.
Nuddy only offers three different shampoo bars, which is less than most other brands. They are not categorised by hair type, which can make it a bit difficult to know which one to choose.

But what confuses me even more is that they are all suitable for most hair and skin types. Looking in more detail at the ingredients listed on the website, there is no difference at all.
All I can think is that the difference is that they have a different fragrance, judging by the names: fruit boom, bitter citrine and moody cocoa.
However, having one bar that works for your hair and body is great in environmental terms, because you don’t have to buy different products in plastic bottles. And you should also save money that way.
Nuddy does not sell any conditioner bars, but they offer a hair butter for all hair types, which is meant to condition your hair. This comes in the form of a cream. Then they also sell a moisturiser cream for all skin types. Both appear to come in a jar.
Quality
We all want to use quality products, but especially when it comes to body care. After all, you don’t want to use nasty chemicals on your skin or hair.
Therefore, I could not leave this important section out of my nuddy shampoo bar review. The good news is, nuddy does say they only use ingredients of the highest quality. For example, natural organic argan and coconut oil.
However, they also mention that their products are over 80% natural. This begs the question what the rest is made of. Unfortunately, they don’t elaborate on this on their website.
One thing I did notice though is that they only list perfume (fragrance) on their ingredient list for their shampoo bars. While essential oils are often used as natural fragrances in personal care products, most sustainable brands specify what they use.
What is great though is that they don’t use any sulphates, instead they use natural surfactants that are less harsh on your hair and skin.
Value for money
Swapping to a more eco-friendly shampoo alternative should not cost more, which is why, in my nuddy shampoo bar review, I also check if you get value for money.
With 100g the nuddy shampoo bars are bigger than most other brands. They last up to two months, depending on how often you wash your hair and how long your hair is.
However, they cost double than other 100g shampoo bars available. Admittedly, they are positioning themselves as a sustainable luxury brand, so it is probably to be expected that they are more expensive.
Personally, I don’t think that a shampoo bar should be that expensive, but that’s for everyone to decide for themselves.
Given that you can get other shampoo bars that use 100% natural ingredients, give you great results and allow you to ditch plastic bottles, I wouldn’t say you get great value for money with nuddy.
Customer Reviews
Before I buy a new product, I like to see what other people think. Especially when it comes to hygiene products.
That’s why this is an important section in my nuddy shampoo bar review.

And I am very pleased to say that the majority of nuddy customers are happy with their shampoo bars.
3.2-star rating on Facebook and 4 stars on Trustpilot. It has to be said though, that nuddy has recently rebranded to become a sustainable luxury brand. Many of the Trustpilot reviews are from before the rebranding.
While the majority of customers are happy, some have pointed out that the only thing that has changed is the price.
This is exactly the same product as the old one, just with a new name & double the price! As a long standing Nuddy customer I was disappointed to hear that my beloved cocoa & cardamom shampoo bar was being discontinued & replaced by new products. I decided to order the new moody cocoa cleanse bar instead, even though it is almost double the price. Imagine my surprise on receiving it to find it is literally exactly the same product with exactly the same ingredients & even has the old Nuddy logo on it. Feeling a bit misled & cheated as a regular customer.
2-Star Review from Brittany on Trustpilot
Absolutely brilliant that you can use it for everything and I love the smell!

How Do You Use The Nuddy Shampoo Bar?
Newbies to solid bars might wonder how you use them. So I thought I would talk about this in my nuddy shampoo bar review.
It’s really simple, just wet the bar under running water. Then rub it between your hands to produce a creamy lather.
Distribute the lather all over your hair, massaging your scalp as you go. Make sure you get the lather all over your hair.
Alternatively, you can just rub the bar onto your hair and lather it up that way. However, I find that this makes you use more than you actually need.
There is also no transition period with nuddy shampoo bars. When you have finished your liquid shampoo, just start using your bar.

Do Shampoo Bars Work For Curly Hair?
Shampoo bars work for any hair type, as they are just a concentrated form of a liquid shampoo.
If they are well-made and use good quality ingredients, they will clean and nourish your curly hair just like a shampoo in a bottle.
The main difference between liquid and solid shampoos is the water content. Most liquid versions contain about 80% of water. A solid bar does still contain water, but in much lower quantities.
However, if your curly hair needs special treatment, you might want to look for a shampoo bar that is formulated for your hair type.
Sometimes it’s a bit of trial and error to find the perfect shampoo bar for you, but it’s worth it, when you know that you will reduce your plastic waste and help the planet.
How Long Do Nuddy Shampoo Bars Last?

This is a question that many people ask, so I wanted to address it in my nuddy shampoo bar review.
The answer is not straight forward though, because it depends on how often you wash your hair and how much shampoo you use.
In this respect, it’s the same as any bottled shampoo. But because bars are more concentrated, they will last longer. The question is, by how much?
On their websites, nuddy says their shampoo bars last for up to two months, which is obviously an average and will depend on how you use your bar.
Compared to a liquid shampoo they say it will last up to three times as long. So I would say you definitely save two plastic bottles, probably three.
It will last longer, if it is stored correctly. When not in us, it should be kept dry. Otherwise, it won’t last as long as it could.
Find out more about how to store shampoo bars in our handy guide.
The best way to store your solid bar is by using a soap rack. Wooden racks work well, because they will soak up excess water, making sure your bar dries out quickly.
Unfortunately, most shampoo bars don’t come with storage accessories and neither does the nuddy shampoo bar.
However, they do sell a tin and a string bag, where you can store your bars when not in use.
The drawback of these is that you need to let the bar dry before putting it in the tin or the bag. So you will need some sort of rack to dry it on.
Because leaving it on the sink won’t be that good, as it might get a soggy bottom. You might remember soggy soaps from when you were kid, I certainly do.
The tin and bag are a good accessory to travel with your solid bar though. Whether to the gym or on holiday, they will keep your shampoo bar safe and sound.
Conclusion
To conclude my nuddy shampoo bar review, I will say that I only cautiously recommend them.
Nuddy’s shampoo bars are more expensive than most other bars you can buy, and not just by a few pounds. While this point is a personal opinion and everybody has to decide for themselves, there are other reasons.
Their website is very thin when it comes to proving their sustainability claim. They focus much more on being a luxury brand than a sustainable brand.
Their range of shampoo bars is rather small, and it appears all three contain the exact same ingredients. Even the description for all of them is the same.
However, the majority of their customers seem to like their product. So if you have deep pockets, you could give them a go. You would still reduce plastic in your bathroom with their shampoo bars.
